Leochlor purred as the lion and cub bonded. Watching this, Brooke felt her heart break, Sapler had never officially been caught; he had willingly stayed with her at the lab, but now they had found home and Brooke couldn't deny the little Pokemon that. She bit down on her lip, watching as the two reacquainted with one another. Such a dilemma. Another growl emerged from the burrow and the two grass types turned to look; Brooke thought the lion was large enough, but she quickly found out what was already standing before her was a lioness. A stronger, larger maned Leochlor left the burrow to greet his son. A whole family, now Brooke was really torn.
Her thoughts were disrupted when the male Leochlor growled at what looked like the tree. But he had scented Soren. Sapler and Axew were familiar with him, so didn't even consider his being there, the two Leochlors hackles raised as they split to encircle the tree, entrusting Brooke with Sapler - something that surprised her - as the pair hunted the intruder. Soren would find that he would be faced with a Leochlor on his left and right, snarling at viciously.
Brooke in the mean time wondered what in Lugia's name was going on, hearing all that growling from the other side of the tree. Sapler looked nervous but she laid a hand on the grass type's head, "It's alright. We'll help them if they need us."

Soren swore under his breath when he heard another growl along with the first and heard two sets of footsteps coming ever closer under two of the lion-like grass-types rounded the tree on either side of him. The new one was even larger than the first and judging from the larger mane and heavier set build he'd have to guess it was a male, likely Sapler's father.
Absol started to snarl and spit as she crouched defensively in front of her trainer, mane bristling and horn gleaming in the autumn sun. "Stand down Alexis," Soren hissed. "Don't provoke them."
The Absol bobbed her head and silenced her snarling but remained in a crouch, primed to launch herself forward if need be. Soren kept his back flat against the tree, trying to stay as still as possible as the pair of felines started to close in, the female focusing her attention on Absol whilst the male kept his eye on Soren. Alexis appeared none to happy at the fact and started to snarl again. Soren cursed - the Absol was known for being over aggressive when his safety was involved and she was likely to start a fight if she didn't settle down. Carefully he pulled out her pokeball and returned her in a flash of crimson light. The action, however, appeared to agitate the two Leochlor. The male let out a low, echoing growl and reared up onto his hind legs, knocking Soren to the ground with a powerful swipe of his massive paws before leaping on top of him, pinning him to the ground.

Brooke didn't need to know a Leochlor very well to know when it had attacked, that distinctive yowl of warning followed by a roar of battle. Sapler's ears pricked up to listen in, Brooke heard the sound of a body thump against the ground; but Brooke grew concerned, whatever the Leochlor had found had really riled them up! Axew bounced up onto a large uptorn root and went to go and see what was going on, Brooke decided to follow with Sapler behind her.
Axew arrived first, seeing the the male Leochlor pinning Soren to the ground whilst the other circled; awaiting the moment for him to try to fight back so she could make her move. Axew waved its arms at the two lions and insisted that he was a friend, but they took no heed. The male Leochlor leaned its head in close to come face to face with Soren, growling low and with a message that conveyed that he would kill him for his intrusion.
Brooke arrived then and Sapler cried out loudly to get its parents attention, both Leochlor looked up and listened to their son. The male Leochlor snarled and spat and eventually got off of Soren, the female yowled in disappointment. Brooke looked just as angry as the lioness, "You followed me." And that was definitely not a question.

Soren carefully sat up, wincing slightly at the pain shooting up his side – the male Leochlor really hadn't held back when he pounced. That combined with his earlier fall from Maria's back had his ribs screaming in protest at his movements right now. He stood and met Brooke's angry gaze with a slow nod.
“Yes,” he replied simply, one hand holding his side the other stretched out in a gesture of frustration. “Brooke how could I not? I wanted to make sure you were all right! You know how much I care about you, I wasn't about to let you go charging headlong into the unknown without any backup.”
Soren sighed suddenly and allowed his shoulders to drop in defeat. Weary wasn't the word for the exhaustion eating at his limbs and mind. With Brooke looking as angry as the Leochlor he realized there was no winning and he started to limp away until the lioness' angry growl made him halt in his tracks. “Call off the beasts and I'll leave you alone,” he stated bluntly, turning his tired blue eyes back onto her. This really was getting to be too much...perhaps he'd have to consider retirement...going back to Kanto... “Please I'll just – leave you alone if that's what you want.”

Her eyebrows furrowed into a frown, her lips pressed tightly together in that typical look of irritation and contempt. "I'm not a child Soren. I'm not the one who's a magnet for trouble either," She pointed out, "venturing into the unknown without anyone to help was all I did when I was training! Or have you forgotten how that works?" Her words were spiteful and even Brooke was surprised by the acidic edges to her words. It was too late now however, she kept a stern unmoved expression.
Brooke drew in a sharp breath through her teeth when the female Leochlor blocked Soren's escape. She glanced down and gave a soft smile to Sapler, who mewed a sweet request to its mother. The Leochlor growled in protest, but stepped aside. "Leave then. Nothing's stopping you now." She turned then to head in the opposite direction, back round the other side of the tree. She needed to think now, to find out whether Sapler would remain with her or now remain with his family.

Brooke's words cut deep - then again all her words seemed to be aimed at hurting him these days. Even so Soren's control momentarily slipped and there was a flash of raw pain on his features. Apparently he had made the right choice by throwing the rose away. When the female Leochlor stood down after Sapler's plea he nodded. "Thank you," he murmured softly. He made to leave but paused for a moment, glancing back over his shoulder at Brooke and the family of grass-types. He gestured at Sapler. Now it was his turn to be a little cutting "Let the child make the choice...you can't make all the choices for it, that's what being a parent entails...something you wouldn't understand."
Without another word the gym leader left, his limp getting steadily worse until he finally got back to Maria. The horse nickered softly and nuzzled her master, looking at him with sad black eyes. He patted her ivory hide as if to reassure her before mounting up. "Come on szépségem...your fool master is not welcomed here."
Straightening in the saddle in gave the reins a flick and Maria immediately launched into a gallop, thundering through the autumn wood. There was a brief moment when they passed by Brooke and the Leochlor but he refused to look at them. Instead he barked a command at Maria and the mare let out a loud whinny, increasing her speed further.
He didn't slow his mount until Windfall drew into view. Once onto the safety of the grounds he passed off the reins to a stablehand and made his way back into the manor. His mind was buzzing and his body ached like he'd been trampled by a herd of Tauros. First thing was first; a hot shower to try and clear his head then he'd have to sit down and sort out the royal mess he'd made of things.
