((Okay for my own sanity I'd like to keep RPing here as much as possible liiiife is getting me down ever so slightly and the Spelunking thread is likely to close up fairly soon I'm thinking soooo that being said anyone can just jump on in here, there's no real set plan, just an excuse to write something and play a bit)) “Easy now, easy.”The cream coloured horse-pokemon nickered softly as she was led out of the small stable, her flaming mane undulating in the crisp fall breeze. Behind her Zebstrika followed curiously, sparks dancing around his hooves as he pranced in place. Soren smiled at the excited creature as he checked to make sure the saddle wasn't on too tight and to make sure the bridle was well in place over the Rapidash's head. The beautiful creature had been a gift from his cousin – a peace offering according to Dominic. The wayward Rathbone owned a ranch that bred the horse-like pokémon as a speciality – not for battling, but as work horses and riding. This particular specimen was one of the larger breeds, standing at 16 and a half hands with a more muscular build and more upright shoulders than wild Rapidash. She was bred for work and light riding – not as fast as some of the thoroughbreds Dominic's ranch was known for breeding, but she was quite perfect for the tall gym leader's stature and for the tough terrain of the Kansai wilds. That fact alone made her perfect for what Soren had in mind. Tobias had traded his Zebstrika to the gentleman gym leader in the hopes that he could better his speed stat – what better than a little competition? If it was one thing a domesticated Rapidash shared with it's wild cousins it was the intense urge to race. Zebstrika, as he was now, didn't have much of a hope keeping up with one of Dominic's thoroughbreds or a wild Rapidash, but one that had more draught horse characteristics, slower and with the same drive to run, it'd be the perfect way to put the smaller zebra-like pokémon through his paces – after all, even the slowest of Rapidash were enough to make one's head spin with the speeds they were capable of. Soren placed one boot in the stirrup and easily swung himself up into the saddle with the ease of grace of a practised rider. Rapidash riding was a sport he'd been introduced to at a young age – it was common practice for the higher class and old aristocratic families like the Forbergs. The gentleman gym leader gathered up the reins and settled himself in the saddle. The Rapidash pawed at the ground with an iron shod hoof – another feature work and riding horses had that separated them from the battling class – and nickered excitedly. Soren twisted around and looked back at Zebstrika who stared up at him curiously as he drew abreast of the much larger pokémon. “How do you feel about a little race old boy?”Zebstrika cocked his head to one side, ears twitching as if pondering the suggestion before he bobbed his head with an excited whinny, sparks dancing around his hooves again. Soren grinned and gave the reins a flick, squeezing his heels against the Rapidash's sides. The horse-pokemon whinnied and immediately launched into an easy gallop eliciting a peal of laughter from her rider. Truthfully he hadn't gone out riding in years and it was a joy to be back in the saddle again. The Autumn air was crisp as he rode against the wind, his long greatcoat billowing out behind him like his mount's fiery tail. Zebstrika let out a high pitched whinny and immediately took off after the pair, catching up after a few moments. Rapidash snorted when the small equine-pokémon drew up alongside of her and kicked things into a higher gear. Her legs stretched out further and she put her head down, Soren kept the reins slack, letting her set whatever pace she chose. Zebstrika huffed and was doing his darnedest to keep up with the larger horse who was slowly gaining a lead. The landscape was becoming a greenish-brown blur as they thundered over the hills. For the first time in a while Soren let his heart soar – it was a fantastically free feeling to race over the landscape like this. It was similar and yet completely different to flying – riding in the skies had a light, care-free feeling to it, this felt much more earthy and powerful. “Come on show me what you can do my beauty!”Rapidash whinnied and tossed her head, increasing her speed yet again. They kept at it for over an hour until Zebstrika's tired whinny made Soren draw his mount to a halt as they crested the brow of a hill. Rapidash snorted and stomped her hoof, looking a little put out that the running had stopped so soon whilst Zebstrika tiredly trotted up the hill to join them, head low as he panted. Soren patted the mare's sweat dampened neck before dismounting and walking over to Zebstrika, carefully inspecting the smaller zebra-like pokémon to make sure he hadn't strained himself trying to keep up. Seeing that he was in good health and just a little tired and fed the electric type a pokeblock who nibbled at it appreciatively. He smiled and walked back over to his Rapidash, patting her nose before smoothly mounting back up and watching the sun start to dip beyond the hills. It was then that Soren realized that his heart was pounding and he was breathing just as hard as the two horses. He laughed and patted Rapidash's neck again. A distant rumble caused Soren to twist around in the saddle. Angry looking clouds, black and heavy with rain were surging towards them. Already he could see rain on the hills and the occasional flash of lightning. Rapidash snorted and tossed her head, as a fire-type she was not fond of the rain and she had no love of thunderstorms. Soren gave the reins a flick and clicked his tongue, swiftly turning his mount and heading back towards home. Running at full speed they might've beaten it, but with a tired Zebstrika slowing them down the rain wasn't long catching up and they were soon caught in the deluge. Soren gritted his teeth, wiping rainwater from his face as he tried to keep Rapidash at a steady pace without jeopardizing her footing on the rain-slicked ground. It was a hard job just to see where they were going and he could only hope that nothing strayed into the large horse's path that he didn't see.

(Interesting...mind if I jump in? ) Ignus just walked through the rain, the waterdrops pelting his black explorer's hat as he walked, keeping his trenchcoat wrapped around him as the wind billowed behind him. He was used to rainstorms...but what he wasn't used to was the memories that for some reason popped up whenever he found himself in one. But for now, the memories of that day were back in his past, where they belong. As he walked, he heard the neighing of a Rapidash close by, and following it, found Soren...riding a Rapidash through the storm, with a Zebstrika following them. Curious, he waved at the Speed Gym Leader, yelling a little over the thunderclaps. "Soren! Soren! Over here! It's me, Ignus!"

Soren bowed his head down against a gust of wind and just managed to hear a voice above the screaming gale. "Soren! Soren! Over here! It's me, Ignus!"
The gentleman gym leader looked up and just managed to make out Ignus' outline behind the curtain of rain - standing a little too in the way of his Rapidash's path for his liking. He pulled back on the reins and tried to steer the mare around the explorer, but a flash of lightning and an almighty rumble of thunder spooked the already uneasy fire-type and the sight of Ignus standing so close had her rearing up on her hind legs, iron shod hooves lashing at the air. Soren swore and threw his weight forward, trying to stop the frightened horse from toppling over backwards - he'd experienced that accident once before in his youth and it had been far from pleasant.
Under his encouragement Rapidash finally went back down onto all fours, wheeling out her anxiety in a sharp circle as Zebstrika stood nearby nickering softly. With his horse now under control Soren turned his mount back towards Ignus and looked down at the younger man. "Ho-Oh's tail feathers Ignus! Give a man a little warning," Soren said breathlessly as he patted his mount's rain and sweat dampened neck, trying to keep her calm. Realizing that he'd probably sounded overly hostile the gym leader sighed. "Sorry, Maria here gets a little skittish in the rain - she's not fond of it."
The Rapidash snorted and pawed at the ground irritably as if to prove the point and cast a wary glare at Ignus, still not quite sure what to make of him. Soren pulled back on the reins slightly making the fiery horse-like pokemon step back a few paces. "What are you doing out here in this foul weather?"

Ignus managed to step away in time before the Rapidash's hooves caught him, and almost slipped on the wet ground before regaining his composure. He had seen many things in his lifetime, and seeing a spooked Rapidash almost pin him to the ground out of fright is not something he'd wish to experience.
Ignus managed to walk up, hearing Soren's words a few times, then yelled out over the pounding rain, "Sorry about that. Not many people would even think of traversing a storm like this one. Reminds me of that one storm back in Hoenn. Not pleasant at all."
Ignus then gave the Rapidash a bow. "And I apologize to your Rapidash for spooking it in any manner." He then heard Soren's question, and patted his explorer's hat. "Well Soren, before I can answer that question, perhaps it be best that we head indoors before this storm gets any worse." And Ignus was proving somewhat of a point. He could tell that this storm was going to get either better or worse at any given minute...proving the fact that weather can be, at times, completely unpredictable.

"Point taken, but neither of us is very normal now are we Master Draco," Soren muttered under his breath, flicking a rain soaked lock of silver hair away from his face. He looked back down at Ignus and shrugged, "Come along then, my estate isn't far from here, you're welcome to weather out the storm there."
Another crack of thunder had Maria tensing up beneath him and it was all the gentleman gym leader could do to stop the skittish Rapidash from bolting and probably trampling Ignus in the process. "Might I suggest we be quick about it?" he said, reining his mount in again when she began to prance in place. Zebstrika kept close to the larger horse's side. He wasn't nearly as bothered by the weather as the Rapidash, but he didn't seem to like seeing his newfound racing companion so upset. "Do you have a pokemon for transport - I don't recommend a flyer with this much lightning. You're too tall for Zebstrika, but you're welcome to ride with me if needed, Maria can handle the pair of us quite easily if she has to."

Ignus nodded. "Ah yes, good point there, Soren." Ignus nods and takes a pokeball from his belt. "I actually have just the Pokemon to give me a lift. He may not seem up to it, but he's a tad tougher than he looks." And with a toss of his hand, his Zebstrika Arashi appeared before them, looking at Ignus with a questioning look. Ignus waved his hand back and forth. "Now is not the time to give me that look, Arashi. I need a lift back to Soren's estate, if you're willing."
The Zebstrika looked at Soren and the skittish Rapidash, along with the other Zebstrika standing next to the larger horse's side, gave a shrug of its shoulders and lowered itself for Ignus to climb onto his back. Which he did, with minor difficulty. Arashi was a bit larger than the Zebstrika next to Soren, almost as big as the Rapidash but not as large. He then looked at Soren on Arashi's back and nodded. "Alright. Lead the way, Soren."

((Actually Ignus Zebstrika's are quite a lot smaller then the Rapidash I described - she's a draught horse after all fun fact for the day haha, but it works for the RP so we'll just roll with it - also I've been dying to type up a description of Soren's manor ^.^)) Soren nodded and expertly guided his Rapidash a few paces to the side to give Ignus room to unleash his pokemon. He was surprised he'd choose a Zebstrika - as tall a specimen as it was it had a much lighter build than Soren's own mount. Still, he knew the electric-type was probably a great deal stronger than it looked - it'd have to be to carry someone of Ignus' height. Tobias' Zebstrika pranced excitedly in place, clearly pleased to have another of its kind joining his small herd. Soren gathered up the reins. "Just follow me, it's not very far."With that the gym leader gave the reins a light flick and set forward at a loping pace, refraining from launching into a full gallop for Ignus' sake - from the way he'd mounted his Zebstrika it didn't look like he had much practice in riding, let alone trying it sans a saddle. Still, even at their slower pace the manor rose into view in only a quarter of an hour. Windfall Manor, also known as the Forberg Estate was one of the most well known structures in Kansai. The massive building stood a few miles outside the city of Gamboge and was renowned for it's size and architecture. It was a beautiful recreation of the ancestral Forberg home on mainland Kanto, though the current dwelling of Soren Forberg had a slightly more Victorian air than the well kept medieval manor that is it's predecessor. The grounds surrounding the stately home were extensive. In the front the large sprawling lawns were divided into distinctive sections by the white stone drive leading up from the black wrought iron gate to the columned porch. Towards the back were the beautiful Elizabethan Gardens, the small pond and of course the famous Rookery which was famed for housing birds of all species. The manor itself stood in stark contrast to the bright gardens, only made more imposing by the lightning flashing in the background, throwing the structure into sharp relief. The stone face was dark and impassive, many of it's Gothic arched windows standing empty, framed by velvet curtains with only a few of the rooms sporting any illumination – an indicator of how small the family Forberg had become. The roofs were sharply peaked, decorated with more ironwork and the large double doors with their brass Entei head handles and darkly stained wood only added to the air of nobility and intimidation. Upon there arrival the iron gates immediately swung open, allowing the riders to continue up the drive to the front of the house where two servents stood waiting. Soren dismounted and handed the reins off to one of them. "Here, take care of the pokemon, make sure they're watered and fed," he said, glancing back over his shoulder at Ignus. "You can trust my stablehands, they'll make sure Arashi is well looked after. Come along now."With that Soren opened the door and strode into the grand main foyer of the manor, shedding his sodden greatcoat as Nathaniel came walking down one side of the grand double staircase. "Ah there you are Sir, we were starting to get a little worried." "I was just a little - delayed," Soren replied as he hung up his coat. "Is the parlour ready?""Fire stoked and tea waiting on your command Sir." "Very good, please show Master Draco there, I shall join him shortly." Soren said before disappearing up the grand staircase leaving Ignus alone with the elderly butler. Nathaniel smiled and gave the explorer a slight bow. "If you'll just follow me Sir." Following Nathaniel Ignus would be led to a cozy looking room panneled with dark cherry wood, furnished with overstuffed armchairs, finely crafted and lacquered end tables, oriental rugs and a grand marble fireplace where a cheery blaze sat crackling in the hearth. A few moments later Soren would appear, doing up the last button of his customary frock coat before he would elegantly take a seat in one of the armchairs, beckoning Ignus to do the same.

(Alright. ^^)
Ignus nodded, and giving Arashi a pat on the head, followed Soren on the Rapidash, Arashi following them carefully for Ignus' sake, as he had to hold onto Arashi carefully so as not to slip off, the Zebstrika showing no signs of discomfort having his tall Trainer ride on him. Upon reaching the manor, Ignus just stared at it in awe on top of Arashi, as he had never seen anything so extravagant in his life. He could tell that this was a very authentic manor also, and that made Ignus feel a tad out of place, since he was used to camping in different places like the explorer he was.
He followed Soren through the iron gates and towards the servants. Hearing Soren's words about his stablehands, Ignus nodded and dismounted Arashi with no trouble and led Arashi up to one of them, showing a small smile to Arashi. "Now, you'll be on your best behavior for the stablehands, yes?" The Zebstrika nodded and let out a tiny neighing sound, and Ignus nodded and patted his head. "I'll see you later then, Arashi."
He walked up inside, and seeing that his black trenchcoat and hat were just as waterlogged as Soren's, removed them from his person, revealing a red explorer's vest on top of a white dress shirt, along with his grey hair with the one lock of fire-red hair that stood out on his head and came down over his right eye. After hanging them up next to Soren's coat, Ignus nodded to the butler and followed Nathaniel to a cozy-looking room, Ignus still looking around with eyes full of curiosity. He then saw Soren come in, and took a seat as well in one of the armchairs as Soren did, then looked at the fireplace.
After a few minutes, Ignus broke the silence. "Right. So, I promised that I would tell you why I was out there. I was doing a little of exploring around the island. To see if there were any places that haven't been discovered. Well, as I was walking, I noticed the storm clouds overhead. The next thing I knew, I found myself in that storm." Ignus then looked over at Soren in the other armchair. "Weather can be quite unpredictable, huh?"

Soren arched a silver brow as he listened to Ignus' explination as to why he'd been caught out in the storm and nodded his head slowly. "I see...yes I suppose they can be unpredictable - and most discomforting at times," Soren said quietly as he glanced out the arched window and saw a fork of lightning beyond the rain-straked panes. It reminded him of a night when he'd braved the thunder and lightning to fly to Kanto on the worst night of both his and his daughter's lives. Snapping himself out of his thoughts Soren turned back towards Ignus and leaned back in his armcahir, crossing one leg over the other. "So did you find anything of interest on your journey then?"
Before the explorer could get an answer out Nathaniel entered the room with several letters in hand. He passed them to Soren and bowed low. "Today's post Sir, all bills from the Kanto firms - oh and Professor Verity's lab called whilst you were away."
"Brooke?" Soren asked, perking up at the mention of the Maple Town scientist. Remembering whose presence he was in he cleared his throat and continued. "Ah and what did Professor Verity want?"
"Oh she was just calling on behalf of Dr. McKinley, the biologist - she's out in the wilds at the moment and can't contact you herself, but apparently she wished to stop by and look at the Rookery next time she's in the area as she's studying the migratory behaviors of the Braviary flocks to the north."
"Ah, well of course she has my permission; pass that message along to the Professor Nathaniel if you'd be so kind."
"Of course Sir," Nathaniel said with another bow before leaving the room. Soren quickly glanced at the adresses scrawled on the envelopes before setting them aside and looking back to Ignus with an apologetic smile. "My apologies Master Draco, please continue - did you find anything interesting on your expidition?"

The rain hammered down upon the car, Brooke and Sarra had to speak up to talk to one another; both flinching as the crack of thunder boomed overhead. Sarra had become a sort of hand to the associates who worked with the stored Pokémon who stretched their legs over the many acres of land that belonged to the laboratory. It gave her the opportunity to learn about new Pokémon that had come from far and wide, it also gave her the chance to train with Torchic and become a better trainer. Brooke always made sure that she was seen home properly, but with the storm forecasted Brooke decided to drive her down. It was much slower than flying, but there wasn’t a chance in hell that she would allow Sarra to fly in such weather. It was a couple of hours journey and Brooke had offered that Sarra could stay in Maple to wait for the storm to blow over, but she insisted that she ought to see her father; Brooke knew not to convince her otherwise.
They were coming up the driveway now, she had phoned Nathaniel about the birds; a message she’d also received on the roads from Lorna. Now she made a second call, telling him to expect them soon. Roughly about twenty minutes later, Brooke’s little black Clio looked ridiculous in the shadow of the great manor house. The storm was still raging as the gates opened before them, Brooke drove the car up the drive; pulling up right outside so they needn’t go far in the wet. “Go go go!” Brooke called out with the undertones of childhood glee, the pair escaped the car and fled up the stairs, where Nathaniel waited for them with the door open. The two skidded indoors, fitful with giggles of the silliness of their little escape from the storm. Regaining her composure, but still grinning like a fool, Brooke nodded to Nathaniel, “Thank you Nathaniel.”

Soren idly started riffling through his mail as he waited for Ignus' reply when the sound of distant giggling caught his attention immediately. He set aside the letters, a grin spreading across his face and rose. "Hold that thought Ignus."
He left the parlor and walked out into the main foyer and spotted a laughing Brooke and Sarra having just gotten in from the rain. Sarra spotted her father and immediately ran up to him. Soren chuckled and swept the little girl up into his arms as he walked over towards Brooke. He took in her smile and his pale blue eyes softened considerably. It wasn't often he got to see the Professor smile and he quite liked the sight, it usually meant he was safe from a berating for the time being - that and the fact that she had a pretty smile to boot. "I was wondering when you lovely ladies would be getting back," he grinned as he set Sarra down and offered Brooke his arm in a gentlemanly gesture. "Come on, there's a pot of tea on if you want, seems like this is my day for company."

Ignus was about to speak, when he was stopped by Soren and just watched the Speed Gym Leader walk out, then looked at the fireplace for a few minutes. He began thinking about what he should do. From what Brooke told him a few weeks ago during their private discussion, there wasn't much to be discovered here on Kansai, and yet something told him that there was something. He had a few exploration ideas in mind, and he decided to wait until Soren returned before he relayed them out.
Of course, Ignus kept staring into the fireplace, listening to the thunderous roars outside the manor along with the pounding rain. Ignus smiled a little and kept gazing into the fireplace, with a look that made him seem lost in thought.

Brooke was giddy with excitement still, she was finding it hard to get back to her resolute, professional self. So much so that she even brushed off the ‘lovely ladies’ comment and agreed that tea would be fantastic. She did however, reject the offer of his arm with a polite smile, a shake of the head and a half ‘stop’ signal with her hand; all very politely done of course, happiness didn’t (always) lead to stupidity, she didn’t want to offend. She grinned at Sarra, then tried to calm herself down again; clearing her throat as lightning cracked in the distance outside, “Yes, tea would be lovely, please.” She’d rather try and stay as long as she could, even though the journey was made worthwhile knowing Sarra was home safe; it’d seem awfully silly to then spend another several hours in the car back up to Maple Town. She’d wait for the weather to calm down.
Brooke would follow them into the room, smiling at Ignus, “Ah, hello Ignus! How goes the travelling? I hope now that you’ve gotten out to taste Kansai a bit more it’s to your liking.” She kept eyeing that tea pot, she would kill for a few biscuits to go with it; the drive had left her a bit peckish.

Soren withdrew his arm with a half nod and stood to one side to allow Brooke to pass through the doorway which would lead to the parlour where Ignus was still waiting. He was about to follow when Nathaniel's dry chuckle stopped him. He turned to the butler and arched a silver brow. "What?"
"Oh nothing Sir - you just may want to stop showing such unnecessary 'fondness' towards a certain brunette with a penchant for lab coats and kneeing you in the groin." Nathaniel replied with a slight smirk, though his eyes conveyed his seriousness. "She doesn't take kindly to it."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Soren growled. Nathaniel and proceeded to roll up the newspaper he had in his hands and none too gently smacked Soren on the top of the head with it. With that the old butler turned and started walking away, pausing for a moment to call out over his shoulder. "By the way Sir, I have taken the liberty of ordering up food for your guests and your daughter wishes to speak with you privately for a moment."
There was little the hapless gym leader could do but nod as Sarra tugged on his coat sleeve and started making her way up the grand split staircase. He took a moment to pop his head in the sitting room and gave both Brooke and Ignus an apologetic look. "Sorry, ah if you'll just excuse me for a moment I'll return shortly. There's a bit of food on the way so help yourself, chat away," he said somewhat absentmindedly as he turned and started following his daughter upstairs through the winding halls of the east-wing to her bedroom. When he got there she was already sitting on the edge of the bed, swinging her legs back and forth while she stroked Torchic's crest plumage. Soren sighed softly and knelt down in front of her with a small smile. “Now then, why'd you rush all the way back here in such weather? Professor Verity wouldn't have minded you staying in Maple Town until it passed you know that.”
“I didn't want to – I didn't want to have any nightmares,” the ten year old mumbled. “I always do when it's stormy, I didn't want to worry Professor Verity or anybody.”
“Oh sweetling,” Soren sighed, moving to sit on the bed next to her. “The storms can't hurt you, you know that.”
“...You know it's not the storms that scare me.”
“I know,” he murmured. “But things will get better in time. The memories won't hurt you unless you let them. I know I've set a poor example when it comes to that but your dad's a very flawed man.”
“No you're not,” Sarra said shaking her head. “You're the best Da anyone could ever ask for.”
Soren chuckled and ruffled his daughter's coal black hair. “Alright then, enough of the sour moods – here, go downstairs and find Nathaniel, he's had something prepared for you for supper. Did you have fun at the lab today?”
“Oh yes, I got to help one of the assistant's handle a baby Vulpix!” she said with a wide smile. "Professor Verity taught me all about their life cycles today, it was fascinating."
“Sounds wonderful,” Soren smiled. “Alright off with you then, I'll be in the parlour with Professor Verity and Master Draco if you need me.”
Sarra bobbed her head and smiled brightly before skipping away, Torchic bouncing along behind her chirping happily. Soren smiled and made his way back downstairs to where his guests were waiting and took up his former spot in the armchair by the fireplace. “Sorry about that.” he said with an apologetic smile. He caught himself giving Brooke a fond look and turned away with a slight scowl - he made a mental note to speak with her later, to thank her for making Sarra the happiest she'd ever been - he just had to do it without crossing any of those precarious boundaries which was a bit difficult when his daughter was starting to view the Professor as a type of mother-figure - or at least the strong female presence she should've had to look up to. He plastered another smile onto his face and looked between Brooke and Ignus. "Yes I'd much like to hear about your travels so far Ignus, go ahead."
((sorry I've been wanting to work in that penchant for labcoats line somewhere for ages XD Oh Soren you silly, silly man))

Ignus waited until Soren returned before he spoke.
"Well, I've seen a lot of Kansai during my travels around the island, and I'm impressed with what I have seen...this place is in perfect harmony. The Pokemon run around freely, the atmosphere is perfect, even the artificial terrain is perfect..." He then sighed happily and leaned back in the chair, looking up at the ceiling. "You know...I think I might just find a good place here on the island and just live here on Kansai from now on..."
He then rubbed his chin and kept thinking. "Though, something has been popping up in my head recently...and that is what lies beneath the waves around Kansai." He then looks at Brooke and Soren respectively. "While exploring, I found myself at a beach, and after looking at the sea for a while to tend to my thoughts, the thought hit me. Surely there must be something that hasn't been discovered underneath the sea, maybe something underneath the island itself..."
He then looks over at the fireplace. "I was going to head over to Maple Town and speak with you, Professor...but then the storm came along, and before I knew it, I ran into Soren and, now I'm here waiting for the storm to die out..." He then looks at both of them with a soft smile. "Well? What do you think?"
