It was a big big day for Brooke, for Maple Town, for the Pokémon that waited patiently in their Pokéballs on the round podium in the middle of the lab. It was the first day that Kansai’s starter Pokémon would venture out with their trainers, she had two signed up for this event. Zeke and a new trainer to the island called Dale. The news of the starters still hadn’t reached some trainers, but with any luck these few trainers who trained and fought with the new Pokémon would bring more attention and give more of them a loving trainer to take care of them.
Sapler, the little grass type, wasn’t in his Pokéball yet. He had agreed to stay and be officially captured after encountering his family in the wild, Brooke had promised he would be extremely well cared for and he would grow into a powerful Pokémon like his parents. She gently rubbed the Pokémon’s head and whispered soothing words to him, “Don’t worry little one. Today will be a good one.”
Out of the three starters, Sapler was already the most socialised because of his time spent with Brooke and her associate; but Embat and Damplie were equally as ready to be taken on an adventure. All she had to do now was open up the lab to the public, give a small statement to the press about the event and then let the trainers – and only the trainers, with the exception of Jack Springs she hated the press, into the lab to come and choose their Pokémon.
No one yet had started a journey on Kansai without a team already, but Brooke never expected that yet. Most who were born here often went to other regions to begin their journey, but now she expected over the next few years that more of Kansai’s own generation would take the challenge. Sapler yowled at her and alerted her to the clock, nearly eleven. It was time.
She withdrew Sapler to his Pokéball and placed it with the two others on the podium. Brooke drew in a deep breath, she was excited, this would make the news in other regions as well. She couldn’t mess it up. Ampharos trotted up beside her and briefly touched his paw to her hand in assurance, “Thanks Amphy. Alright. Let’s get this over with.” Professor and Pokémon walked with purpose out of the laboratory into the grounds out the front, down the winding pathway and to the gates of the lab; where her Charizard and Garchomp held back the press as they tried to peer through the bars.
The gates opened and Brooke forced a large smile to the press, the two dragons stood vigilant on either side of her, “Welcome everyone. I’m pleased to announce the first day of Kansai’s starter Pokémon to be chosen by trainers and taken out on a great journey. Today we have two candidates for this opportunity, trainers, if you are present please step forward. We will go now so that you can meet your new partners.” She beamed, inviting Zeke and Dale forward.

Dale inhaled sharply, taking a moment to get a handle on her nerves. She had travelled though unfamiliar terrain and far, far away from her "home" for this opportunity, and now that is was finally happening, it was hard for her to keep her cool. She glanced at the trainer beside her, straightening the bandanna around her neck carefully and stepping forward, her head held high and her appearance as neat as she could make it. The five pokéballs on her belt felt a little heavier than normal, as if the Pokémon inside could feel the new addition would be arriving soon. She stepped up to the professor and nodded and bit, mouth a little too dry to form a proper greeting, a figuring she came off as more mysterious for it anyway. Dale had been tempted to hide from the clicking of the camera shutters behind the thin cloth of her bandanna, but refrained from doing so. If her parents back home happened to see all this, they would probably skin her alive for hiding her face. " There's a lot more people here than I expected." She mumbled, picking at her jacket as she stood beside the professor and waited for the other Trainer to make his way up.

Drevlin's eyes glinted with curiosity as he made his way through the crowd, Jackal right behind him. He had heard about the Kansai professor giving out starters and was merely interested in seeing what they were. He already had his full team and a comfortable supply of reserves, so he wasn't about to go grab one and take an opportunity away from a more worthy trainer.
"This is pretty neat, eh, Jackal?" He asked, flashing a grin at the large Flygon who returned the gesture with a nod. Jackal was a bit of a larger size compared to most of his breed; his head from nose to the end of his antenna was almost half of Drevlin's six-foot-one body height.
Upon hearing the Professor's greeting, he finally managed to get out in the open, Jackal simply flying over the crowd and landing beside his trainer. Drevlin ran a hand through his red hair a moment, dark eyes hovering over the trainer standing beside the professor. "Seems nervous..." He murmured.
<Or undecided...> Jackal murmured back.
((NOTE: when I put the <> around dialogue, it's basically a translation of the normal "Flygon! Fly!" or whatever Jackal would be saying to other's ears. It's more of a personal reference than anything. He's not speaking English. Haha.))

(Zeke, you're gonna have to be a late comer!)
Brooke smiled at Dale when she approached, then waited for Zeke to come up and join them. Her expression hardened when she fought back a frown when the trainer didn’t step forward. The professor didn’t like late comers, but she would give the trainer the benefit of the doubt. Her eyes found Drevlin in the crowd, she raised her eyebrows as a thought occurred to her. She only had two candidates at the moment, well, one if Zeke didn’t show. Maybe...
“Whilst we wait for Zeke, there is one last space for a trainer to come into the lab and take the third starter Pokémon. If anyone would wish to join, please step forward.” She offered, her gaze staying with Drevlin so that he would know that she was mainly speaking to him more than any other trainer who happened to be in the crowd. A few trainers stepped forward to add their names to the list, if Drevlin would also; Brooke would choose him to come with her.

Ignus sighed and smiled as his eyes looked at the crowd of trainers around Brooke's lab, him leaning against the fence, his Embat Fiamma perched on his shoulder, the flaming bat Pokemon looking at the crowd curiously. Since she was new to the team, the Embat didn't know what else to do but sit on Ignus' shoulder, the explorer looking at the crowd of trainers, noticing two new faces amongst the crowd, one looking nervous, the other standing in the crowd.
Ignus smiled and still watched, then his gaze turned to Fiamma. "Reminds me when I first picked Baron...completely nervous and excited at the same time..." Ignus chuckled a little, the Embat saying her name a few times and sat on his shoulder looking at the crowd.

The situation seemed a bit off to Dale, but she kept her face impassive, eyes darting across the faces of those in the crowd quickly. She was impatient to get into the lab and get her Pokemon, and distinctly uncomfortable standing in front of the trainers and reporters before her. Sure, some were obviously inexperienced, either at or below her level in terms of battle strength, but there were knowledgeable eyes looking at her from the crowd too. They unnerved her; made her feel foolish for standing up there and waiting for someone else to show up.
"Can we just go in, Professor? I think we've waited out here long enough, and no one seems to want to come up to claim another Pokemon." Dale turned away from the crowd a bit to face Brooke, her stomach churning nervously.

The teenager looked about as he heard Brooke's calling out the offer. Then he saw a few trainers step forward quickly. His brow furrowed as he contemplated, seeing the Professor's glancing at him. "Well...It's been a while since we've had a new friend..." He mumbled more to himself than to his companion. "But I'm not a beginner; I don't want to take away from the ones that are, you know?"
He gave a sideways glance to Jackal, who looked content as always. The Flygon flashed him a grin, nodding in a "why not?" sort of manner. <The professor over there gave you the look, boss. Go on. I don't think anyone will hate you for it.>
Sighing, Drevlin shook his head. "But--" He let out a small grunt in surprise when the Flygon nudged him forward a little too hard. "Okay, okay..." Actually doing his best to not look overly confident--which he actually wasn't at the moment, by some miracle--he stepped forward with the other trainers, debating on which member of his team he would choose to put in his reserves if he was chosen.

"Can we just go in, Professor?" Brooke heard amongst the click, click, click of the cameras and the bombardment of questions about these new starter pokemon. However, the trainer was right, it didn't seem that Zeke was here - nor anyone want to come and, ah! Drevlin was pushed forward by his Flygon. A large grin spread across the Professors lips.
She held out a hand to indicate that she had chosen Drevlin, "You, trainer. With the Flygon, you shall have the opportunity of a starter," She told him, "come then. Let's go inside." Charizard and Garchomp parted at the gates to allow Brooke, Drevlin and Dale pass through. The two large beats would prevent anyone not welcome inside, but would allow Ignus through if he asked.
Once they were inside the lab, Brooke would go to stand behind the podium that held the three pokeballs. The sweet yellow Ampharos waddled up to stand beside Brooke, crying her name loudly in greeting. The professor rested her hands on her hips, "Now then, let's get down to business." Brooke's hand gestured to the pokeball on her right, their left, "Here we have the fire type, Embat. A fiercely loyal pokemon who will never let you down." Her hand shifted to her left, their right, "In this pokeball is the water type Damplie. A joyful pokemon that is in constant need to prove itself and will always strive to protect the one it cares for." She lowered her hands, looking down at the middle pokeball. "This is Sapler, a grass type feline pokemon who is friendly, playful and strong. He'll always be your friend, no matter what."
It was a little emotional for Brooke, she had spent far more time with Sapler than the other pokemon. She wouldn't deny she'd gotten a little attached. Brooke stood up straight, flashing a grin at the two trainers. "So, what will it be?"

Dale swallowed, looking at the three Pokeballs in deep contemplation. Her eyes flicked between the three as she weighed the options in her mind. She knew this was an extremely important decision-- one she would have to deal with her a long, long time. Each of the three that the good Professor mentioned seemed like good choices though! The loyal Embat, the joyful Damplie, the friendly Stapler; all of them sounded like... really great members of the team, in the end! Dale bit her lip, thinking hard. From a battling perspective, she thought, it was much less advantageous for her to choose the fire starter, she decided. She had a fire Pokemon, she didn't really need another. So it was between the Grass and water types, she decided, glancing between the two marked pokeballs on the table again. It felt as if time was stretching on far too long. The other trainer must be getting so impatient! Dale closed her eyes and decided to just reach out, and which ever one she grabbed would be her Pokemon. Her hand touched the cool and familiar shape of a pokeball and slowly, Dale opened her eyes again. With a gulp, she pulled her arm back, turning her hand over and looking at the mark on the pokeball, so see what she had "chosen". " Dampile, then." her eyes darted up to the professor, almost not believing that she was actually receiving the honour of a starter Pokemon. her face cracked into a little, grateful smile, as she looked up at Brooke. After a moment, she turned to Drevlin, to see what he would choose, stepping back from the podium.

Drevlin moved into the lab, Jackal deciding to stay outside rather than try to squeeze his way into the door. He looked on, stepping back a little in polite respect as the quiet girl stepped forward to choose first. He stood with an arm crossing his chest, the other resting on top of that one, two fingers resting on his own lips as he continued to carefully contemplate.
Dark eyes closed as he waited patiently, lost in his own thoughts. After a long moment, he was stirred from them by the other trainer's words. Dampile, she said. She had chosen the water-type, which was more than fine with him. Finally, he stepped forward, his hands clasped loosely in front of him. He bit his lips softly as he gazed at the Pokéballs.
Slowly he looked at the professor. "...May I see them?" He asked. The teen looked uncertain, a little puzzled, even. It was hard for him personally to choose by nature or type alone; he would sooner see which one...clicked, had that sort of sparking connection that he would be able to feel immediately, just as he had with every member of his team and his reserves.

Brooke was intrigued by the individuality of the two trainers, how they chose their pokemon differently but both perfectly suitable. Dale took up Damplie’s pokeball and Brooke gave her a large smile, “Damplie it is then. I know you two will get along well.” She admired Dale’s courage, the way she had closed her eyes and allowed fate to take over who would go with her. Here she had a trainer of heart, something that was always valued.
“...May I see them?” Drevlin asked, Brooke nodded and pressed the releases on both Pokeballs. On the podium then sat two small fire and grass types. The first type was undoubtedly a bat, with wings that wouldn’t yet allow prolonged flight. Upon the tips of its ears were two small flames that burned brightly, reflecting the fire in its eyes. Beside it appeared Sapler, the feline cub pokemon with large leaf like ears and bold brown eyes. Both equalled one another in their potential, it just depended on who Drevlin would take how it would be harnessed. Brooke also admired the trainer, she had a trainer of heart and now one of mind. She wouldn’t mind seeing the pair battle against one another at some point.

Dale stepped back as Drevlin asked to see the other Pokemon. In a way, she kind of regretted not asking the same thing in order to make her choice, but there was no turning back now, and deep down she didn't really mind. She had made her choice and she would stick with it. At this point, she simply hoped that it was a good one. Her dark eyes lit with curiosity as she looked at the two other starters sitting on the stand. Part of her really wanted to go with what was familiar and pick the fire starter, but that was not how one learned. Dale was anxious to get out of the lab to meet her new friend, and to introduce her Pokemon to the newcomer. But she waited politely for the other trainer to make his choice, clipping the ball to her belt.

(( You drew Drevlin! <3 You officially rock, Dale. One thing: his has one lock of hair that's long; it covers the right side of his face and fades to black. I can't believe I didn't mention it yet so far. ^^; I love your style, though. ^_^) The teen studied the the two starters for a long moment, finally reaching out a hand to the Sapler, gently touching its head. He smiled softly, then did the same to the Embat. Both had great potential, he knew; it would be hard to make a decision. He glanced back toward the door to see Jackal peeking in, his grin faded to a reassuring smile accompanied with a nod. Drevlin had trained both Grass- and Dragon-type Pokémon most of his life, as well as fire thanks to Castle. The Charizard was his first starter, his first friend, he reasoned; why repeat history? Letting out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, he placed his hand on the Sapler, patting it again. "This one." He said at last. "I'll choose Sapler." His gaze turned to the Embat for a final time. "You're just as great as Sapler." He said quietly. "You'll grow big and strong and you'll always be an amazing Pokémon." The words were a bit of spoken respect that Drevlin held for all Pokémon. When it came to choosing this sort of way, he was always reassuring the one that he didn't choose that he favored neither over the other. Finally, the red-haired teen brushed the single lock of long hair out of his face, the bright red fading to black. Then he picked up the Sapler and cradled it in his arms, pure admiration and love in his eyes and expression. No one could say he didn't love Pokémon. "I'll raise you well." He whispered both to himself and to his new friend."

Ignus smiled as he watched from behind the reporters, slightly relieved that they didn't notice him yet, Fiamma still looking at him carefully, the Embat on his shoulder as he watched the two Trainers pick their Pokemon. As he watched, his mind drifted off to when he picked the starters for each region whenever he started a new adventure. As he let his mind wander, Fiamma the Embat let out 'Embat' a few times, curious as to why Ignus had that far-off gaze, since she was new to it all. "I have a feeling those two will have good homes with good Trainers, Fiamma...Dampile and Sapler. Those two Trainers, especially that one with the Flygon...I'm sure he really loves Pokemon." Ignus chuckled, moving the lock of fire-red hair out of his right eye, Fiamma smiling and saying 'Embat' once more.

(Sorry for the delay, I work Fridays straight after school and I have a long shift Saturdays. Thanks for bearing with me!)
Brooke stepped aside to allow Drevlin to get a better look at the two starters. Both looked up at him with silent anticipation, their eyes shining to make themselves more appealing to the trainer. Embat admitted defeat when Sapler was chosen and wilted visibly, despite Drevlin’s kind words. Brooke leaned over to talk to Embat quietly, but enough for the others to fear, “Don’t worry, it’s because there was supposed to be someone else here to take you, but we only had two. Someone had to stay, I’m sorry Embat, but don’t worry, you’ll get your chance next time, okay?” Her tone was soft, enough to make Embat curl into her warmth and clamber up her lab coat onto her shoulder and cried out its name with pride. “That’s the spirit.”
Brooke then faced the two trainers, a large grin on her face. “Congratulations you two. I know that the bond between you and your Pokémon are strong and because of this I know that you’ll all do extremely well. I wish you both good luck on your journeys. Now, I’m afraid you’ll have to go back out into the media fray; they’ll want to see your new companions.” She chuckled.
Brooke then looked at how delighted Sapler was. She felt like a mother then, after nursing the little grass type back to health she was so happy seeing him going into the care of a capable trainer. The grass type didn’t deserve to be cooped up in the lab with her for the rest of his time, he needed to see the world with a trainer beside him. She’d never felt so proud!
