Background: Since before he could talk, Drevlin would wander into his backyard in the outskirts of Iccirus City and play with the young wild pokemon there. This was how he ended up growing up learning both "human" speech as well as pokemon. His starter was a sickly Charmander that he found at ten, which he brought to the Pokemon Center to help him recover.
When the Charmander was well again, he willingly became Drevlin's first official pokemon companion and the two were inseparable. One day, after Castle--what he decided to nickname his new friend--was evolved into a Charmeleon, the two were training and Castle collapsed. Drevlin rushed his friend to the Pokemon Center and it was there that it was discovered that because of unknown complications, Castle's health was very fragile. The pair finally came to the agreement that it would be best for Castle not to fight or participate in the contests, as it could cause fatal outcomes if the Charmeleon was pressed too far.
Years passed and Drevlin built up his current team, battling the gym leaders slowly as to make sure he was well-prepared for the battles, and worked his way to the top at contests. He traveled high and low for the fun of it and the simple joy of being with his companions, no matter how stubborn some of them were at times (*cough cough* Yume *cough cough*).
When the traveler heard of Kansai, he wasn't about to pass the opportunity to visit new places. So, he gathered his money and his pokemon and headed there on the back of his Flygon Jackal.
NOTE: Jackal was Drevlin's second pokemon to ever have. The two are more like brothers and it's easy to see who the Flygon took after growing up from the level 2 Trapinch he was. Haha.
