Evie giggled, "That's sweet! If he's taken you on as his mother then he clearly trusts you! I think it's a pretty high honour if a pokemon thinks their trainer is family." Evie had been considering getting herself one of the Kansai starters, but the question was which one? In Unova, she had picked Drake when he was a little Snivy, with any luck it wouldn't be long until he evolved into a Serperior.
"Did you see the other two starters? I've been thinking of getting one... But I don't know which I'd get. A pokemon like Trystan would be lovely, but I have a grass type and water... I suppose fire would be sensible but, like I say, I haven't seen them - plus I haven't been able to judge how well a friendship would go." She shrugged, then smiled at his compliment, "Thank you."

((Hope you guys don't mind me popping in, I haven't had the chance to RP Soren in the canon section for a while )) "Alexis what do you think of retirement?"Soren's Absol gave her trainer an side-long glance and huffed before curling back up on the flat rock she was laying on, basking in the sun. The roaming leader chuckled and stroked his pokemon's ivory head. "Just a thought, no need to get like that."Alexis let out a growling 'vrraw' and smacked Soren's arm with her blade like tail in a playful manner. Soren shook his head and smiled. He stood, fully intending to bring out his Aerodactyl so that he could move on to another area when voices from up ahead through the trees caught his attention. He whistled sharply and Alexis was immediately up on her feet, jumping down from her rocky perch to stand at her trainer's side. Carefully the gentleman gym leader made his way through the trees until they came upon a small clearing and spotted Evelyn and another trainer quite unfamiliar to him chatting each other with their pokemon lounging about or interacting playfully. Soren adjusted his cravat habitually as he stepped out of the treeline. "Miss Cherry-Holme, a pleasure to see you again."

(No problem at all. ^^ You're more than welcome to join in. By the way, bonus points for having Dracula as Soren's picture. ;D)
The teen laughed lightly again and nodded. "Well, in a way, I'd be surprised if he didn't. I tend to dote on all of them like they're living in a luxury manor. Of course, I'm still getting to know Trystan, but the rest of the lot love to travel." The teen nodded again at the inquiry. "Yep. The others are Dampile and Embat. The Embat was really cute, but...I got Trystan because my only other starter is a Fire-type. He's back at my house. I didn't see the Dampile; the trainer that got him....Dale, that was her name...she didn't take him out of his ball." In return to the gratitude, he smiled cheerily. "You're welcome."
Jackal was the first to react when the new trainer entered the clearing, looking over, and Drevlin's gaze following shortly after. The giant Flygon called a greeting as usual.
"Hello, there." Drevlin smirked, snickering when Trystan raised his head and started nipping at his ear playfully. "Trystan...that tickles..."

Evie traced a finger over her bottom lip in thought as Drevlin explained the starter pokemon to her. Embat seemed intriguing, if she got one of those she'd expect that George her Gligar could respond in one of two ways; he would love the companionship of a bat like himself, or he would see the new arrival as a threat. No, that was too risky. Getting a Sapler would be lovely, but she feared for Aphrodite... Drake was more than capable to take down the Ninetales, but another grass type at such a low level would easily be bullied by the scorned vixen. The water type? Well, she'd have to find this 'Dale' and see what a Damplie looked like!
"Hmmm. They really sound interesting. I guess I could just go to the lab, see all three and just let the Pokemon decide... If I see them I guess I'll know then." She shrugged, then looked up as a familiar figure appeared through the undergrowth. Evie grinned, "Hi Soren!" Evie turned to Drevlin, "That's Soren Forberg, one of the gym leaders. I tried to take him on once, I uh.. Didn't do so well." She admitted with a slight blush.

Soren gave Evie a nod and a smile, laughing a little at her introduction of him. "You did wonderfully Evie and you know it - this old gent just had better luck that day is all." he said with a wink. He turned towards the trainer whom he'd never seen before bowed politely. "Soren Forberg at your service."
Alexis, clearly recognizing Evie, immediately padded over to the young woman, sniffing about her curiously as she reared up onto her hind legs and pawed at the coordinator's legs, vying for her attention and possibly hoping to see the plucky little Vulpix she'd met before.

The teen nodded his head slightly to the bow, and Jackal mimicked him. "A gym leader, eh? That's really awesome. I've been debating on challenging the leaders here for a while now...It's nice to meet you, Mr. Forberg; I'm Drevlin Terrance." After a nudge, he chuckled. "And this is Jackal..." He patted the Flygon's neck, keeping a hand on Trystan and gently petting his neck and head.

Evie shrugged with a laugh, "Maybe. Thank you Mr. Forberg. I think I'll stick to my contests in future though." Whilst she was saying that, Ares slithered up to Soren to greet him. It was almost as if the snake was showing off the circular scar on the crown of his head, Evie pulled a concerned expression; the snake might be proud of his battle, but Evie was still guilt ridden.
When the Absol pawed at her legs, Evie crouched down to stroke the white fur on her back, "You're looking for Aph aren't you?" She pulled out the pokeball and frowned, "She's not the way you'll remember... But. Maybe.." She looked between Drevlin and Soren, "I'm just going to try something, see if she'll respond to a pokemon she knows." One not of her 'family' anyway.
Evie stepped back, nodding to Absol before releasing the Ninetales who immediately hissed and snarled at the white horned canine in front of her, her hackles raised and tails erect in defense. Evie moaned in dismay, readying the pokeball to retrieve her.

Soren greeted Drevlin and his pokemon with a warm smile before turning back to Evie. He was somewhat surprised when she released Aphrodite. He'd been expecting the lively little Vulpix who'd given him a run for his money, not a snarling Ninetails ready to attack - and not in a good-natured competitive spirit like she had before.
"Oh my..." he said. Alexis automatically reacted in kind, mane bristling as she took up a defensive stance, but a sharp whistle from her trainer had her backing down, sitting back calmly on her haunches. He shot the coordinator a concerned look. "Evie - what happened?"

Drevlin stepped back a little when the Ninetails, then immediately dashed for Leona. The Leafeon was his healer in his team, as well as a sharp reactor. Oftentimes, when startled or frightened, the Pokemon would use her trademark move--Grasswhistle--without her trainer's consent. Not paying attention to the current situation, instead distracted by Bri, the Leafen had jumped at the sudden sound of snarling and was in mid-note of her ability before Drevlin reached her and covered her mouth. "Shh..." He whispered, stroking her head to calm her.
"Sorry, Trystan." He murmured, the Sapler clinging to his shirt and shoulder like a startled cat. He watched the scene calmly, knowing not to look like he was a threat. Then again, he reasoned, that would probably be hard at the moment from what he had seen so far. When he released Leona, the Grass-type mewled a small call to the Ninetails in an attempt to tell her there were no enemies here, though she didn't seem to have much hope of improving the situation.

The vixen snarled and spat when Absol’s hackles raised in defense, even though the horned pokemon didn’t make a move. The Ninetales made threat to snap at the ankles of anything that got too close, her fur raised on edge and her tails coiling like snakes. The others might notice the soothe bell that had desperately been tied around the vixen’s neck, some good that had done. Some damaged can’t be repaired so easily. Evie’s pokemon were the ones to move in, Ares distracted the vixen with a vicious hiss whilst Milotic quickly wrapped her coils around the vixen and promptly dumped water over her head, squeezing tightly. The constriction made the vixen snarl louder, but the water silenced her. Evie took the opportunity then to withdraw her to her pokeball, and nearly dropped it at the heat of the metal once the vixen had returned.
She cursed, sucking on her fingers to try away the sting of the burn then looked at Soren and Drevlin. She sighed and shook her head, “I went with Lorna and a few others to try and find the poacher that attacked Seth. We found him. He had a snag machine, took Aph. He evolved her, it was forced; she was too young! She wasn’t ready yet.” Tears welled up in her eyes despite how she wished them away, she took a breath, “Terrance got her back for me, he warned me all along she wasn’t the same. I thought there would be a little trauma, but I never expected it to be this terrible. I don’t think she trusts me anymore, because I failed. The poacher made me battle him to try and get her back, Ares fought. He lost. The scumbag used a steel type against him, it’s where he got that scar.” She took the snake into her arms, whispering him her constant apologies. ”I just don’t know what to do with her now.”

Soren's brow furrowed in concern as he listened to Evie's tale and his heart immediately went out to the poor girl when he saw the tears in her eyes and the way she desperately clung to her pokemon. He walked over to her and patted her shoulder, tugging out a silk kerchief from the breast pocket of his frock coat and carefully wiping away her tears in a rather fatherly manner.
"Oh Evie it's alright," he said softly, pale eyes sympathetic as he wrapped one arm around her shoulders. "You didn't fail her - she's just confused right now, perhaps a little bitter about losing a part of her life she wasn't ready to, but the blame does not fall on you. Things will get better in time, believe me."
Alexis trotted up to Evie and rubbed herself against the young woman's leg in her own way of comforting her, letting out a soft 'vrraw' to voice her concern.

At this point, Drevlin was really unsure of what to do; he was good with words until it came down to sensitive subjects. Especially ones like this. He could only offer a faint smile, his own gesture of comfort.
Jackal then made a soft noise, lowering his body and more or less crawling toward Evie, trying to make himself seem a bit smaller. He made his way to her and nudged her gently and kept his head there, showing his way of comforting people. Leona followed shortly after, gently pawing at her hand, mewling softly.
"They're saying it'll be okay, too." Drevlin said weakly. Hearing what had happened made him sick to his stomach. He hated poachers with as much of a burning passion as any other trainer, but it also made him feel useless when he knew he couldn't really do much to improve the situation. "They're wondering if there's anything they can do to help."

Evie bit her lip to stem her sobbing, Ares nuzzled his head into the crook of her neck; his warmth calming her slightly. She listened to the words spoken so softly to her, but she didn't seem to think that time would help alone. There must be something she could do to help Aphrodite realise herself again, to trust Evie again. She just didn't know what it was she had to do!
Absol rubbed herself against her leg and when she looked down she realised it wasn't only Absol but the Flygon and Leafeon too, she suddenly felt a little overwhelmed being surrounded by such kind pokemon and people; but the frown on her face showed how she wasn't as comforted as she could be, "I wish I knew what I could do to help, Drevlin." She sighed, then looked at Soren, "You say things will get better in time, but how?" Evie asked, a tone of pleading in her voice, "I can't keep her cooped up in her ball, that'll make things worse... And I can't have her out too often either, you saw her, she'll attack anything on sight! There must be something else, I know I can't make a quick fix and I'll need to work on it, but how do I do that?"

Soren sighed heavily at Evie's pleading tone; he desperately wanted to help the girl but she made a very valid point. Aphrodite was too dangerous to be let out around other pokemon, as a Ninetails she packed quite a punch now and any pokemon weaker than her would be in for a fright and a thrashing - but nor could the vixen be kept in her ball forever, that would only cause the bitterness to fester and grow. The gentleman gym leader stroked his jaw thoughtfully.
"She is too dangerous to be let loose around most pokemon, that much is certain - but you can't keep her locked up forever hoping the problem will go away," Soren agreed. "I saw the way you two battled together and it was a wondrous thing to behold...maybe we need to recreate that feeling."
Soren stepped back a few paces, Alexis retreating with him. She looked up at him expectantly but he shook his head and unclipped a pokeball from the silver chain on his frock coat and tossed the red and white sphere skywards. With a roar his Aerodactyl appeared, settling on the grass in front of his master. "She needs someone strong to go against, maybe she just needs to let some of her aggression loose in order to be rid of it," Soren said, coming to stand next to his pseudo-dragon, patting his scaly flank. "Alexander can take more than a few hits and he can hold his own against Aphrodite without hurting her. If she responds well in this scenario perhaps Drevlin can also help."

Evie looked up in mild confusion, "Recreate the feeling?" She was about to query whether he meant a battle right there and now, but when Soren released his Aerodactyl she gulped. "Are you sure? I know he'd be resistant... But I don't know if she's learned anything new, I have no idea what she's like in a fight. She's far stronger than she was before, I know that just... I don't know how much. I don't want her to hurt any of your pokemon Soren." She explained.
Evie was conflicted, it could work. It certainly could. But what if it didn't? Evie was not known for being a battler, she was all about singing and dancing - she was a performer! She didn't get down and dirty with battling, it wasn't exactly the way she worked. Evie bit her lip, arms folded in uncertainty.
