((This is a quick thing between Ajax and myself, but anyone is welcome to hop in if they like!))
The northern mountain range fascinated Dale from the moment she saw it looming over the distant horizon while travelling in the desert. The jungle between the two places wasn't nearly so appealing, but the trek was worth it. The rocky ground ahead of her sloped towards the sky gently, before great mountains rose from the earth like jagged teeth. Archie, her brightly coloured Archen was perched on her shoulder, observing the landscape with curious eyes and fluttering wings. They both looked at the shapes of different Pokemon scurrying around the rocks, the cave mouths and hardy shrubs before them and Dale grinned a bit, exhilarated at the exploration that lay before her.
"Go on and hop around Archie, but stay close, okay?" she twitched her shoulder, and the parrot like creature took off with a happy caw, jumping into the air above the androgynous girl, landing on a rocky outcropping not far off. She leapt from rock to bush to rock, delighted to be moving around.

Mountains. Mountains always seemed to have some of the strongest Pokemon, hardened from living in the elements, surviving harsh winters... and the mountain-dwelling Pokemon seemed so much better at avoiding trainers, too, making them rarer and more valuable.
Ajax was not, however, looking forward to the colder weather at the peaks. At least he wasn't... starting at the top. Instead, Yeagar landed just near the foot of the first mountain they came to, depositing his rider gracefully on the ground. After so many years of riding on the Pidgeot's back, Ajax had gotten quite adept at dismounting without looking like a clamoring fool.
The bird got a pat on the head and a berry or two as a reward, as usual, before Ajax withdrew him and deposited his Pokeball back into his trenchcoat. Then he was looking at the mountain's face almost appraisingly, trying to spot any wild Pokemon he could see. Perhaps even a trainer with strong or rare Pokemon...
Speak of the devil. At the sound of a voice, Ajax turned and caught sight of a boy and a strange Pokemon he'd never seen before. Some kind of bird-
Well. He'd definitely have to look into this anomaly.
He released Cleo and beckoned her onto his own shoulder. The lavender feline draped herself around his neck, twitching her split tailed as she relaxed, a pleased expression on her features.
Cute Pokemon always made him seem more trustworthy, and... Lai still wasn't at the point where he'd willingly be used as bait. Cleo, on the other hand, would do anything for Ajax...
He sidled up closer to the boy, trying to get within range, and looked up at the mountain, keeping an eye on the strange bird Pokemon as well, a smug grin just barely concealed. Making first contact would be suspicious, but... he was very available, and his Espeon was warm around his neck, purring happily. He looked every bit the veteran trainer out for an adventure.

Dale watched one of the newer Pokemon on her party carefully, thinking about the best way to go about getting up t a cave high up on the side of the mountain she'd spied. Caves were usually fun, and Dale could tell from the soil in the area that one of these great mountains was probably a dormant volcano. She knew a thing or two about those. She whistled loudly, signalling Archie to return to her and began striding forward, adjusting her worn backpack on her shoulders. She let out a surprised yelp as the mischievous bird jumped onto her head and went about making a nest out of her close cropped hair.
"Argh, Archie, stop that!" Dale grunted, annoyed as the bird paid her no mind. eventually she gave up, withdrawing the Archen to her Pokeball and giving the area one last sweep before going up the side of the cliff. A blotch of lavender caught her eye and Dale turned, spotting a tall man in a long trench coat. Blinking a bit in surprise, she noted that there was an Espeon perched on his shoulder, and debated calling out to him.
"... Hey! You with the Espeon!" She called deciding that asking someone in the area for geography tips would be a good idea.

Oh- well, the boy had returned that strange Pokemon... Ajax would have to stick around for a bit, then, find out more about it. Pity. No quick smash and grab here. And he was looking forward to something simple. He was fairly certain that Pokemon wasn't from Kanto, Johto, or Hoenn, at least. Flying type, most likely, though he wasn't sure if it was a dual-type.
But once the boy called for his attention, Ajax started as though surprised, looked over at him. Cleo raised her head, twitching her ears and tail to show that she was paying attention as well.
He raised his hand, giving the kid a nod to show he'd heard. He raised his voice as he began closing the distance between the two of them.
"Guessin' you mean me?" he asked, a small smile quirking his lips.

(Mind if I drop in? And...one minor thing to know for future reference...Archen and Archeops cannot fly. They're rock/flying ancient birds that only hopped around. ^^; I wasn't sure if you guys knew.) Jackal soared over the area proudly and swiftly, his eyes observing everything around as Drevlin laughed and carried on on his back. The Flygon and his trainer were just having a bit of fun. Then, when a clearing in the canopy was spotted, the dragon dived and landed with ease. He stooped to allow Drevlin an easier way to dismount. "All right, Jackal," the red-haired teen started, "how do you feel about some exploring?" At the approving response he got, he nodded and set off. It took them a while, but Drevlin stopped suddenly when he heard voices. Walking a little quietly as to not interrupt anything, he made his way toward the sound, and grinned when he saw a familiar form. "Dale!" He called, waving. He offered a friendly smile to the trainer he didn't know as well. Shortly after, Jackal emerged into view, grumbling under his breath about the trees and how close they were to each other. Jackal was a very large Flygon, his head alone from nose to tip of antenna being half of Drevlin's six-foot-two height, and his neck being longer and more slender than others. Not mentioning his long arms and slender body. The Flygon moved to sit back on his hind legs beside his trainer, grinning widely as he saw the familiar face as well.

((whoops I didn't realize that. Archen can't fly no but Archeops can. "They are intelligent and will cooperate to catch prey. From the ground, they use a running start to take flight." ( source) I'll fix that later. I just assumed they could since they're. you know. birds. Also both Archen's and Archeop's in game sprite flies (or at least flaps) so. so, honest mistake. I'll go fix it after this post.)) Something about the other trainer made Dale a bit uncomfortable, but she had no reason to feel that way, so she repressed it, hooking a thumb under her belt. " I don't see anyone else around here, so yes. Are you from around here? I was planning to try and get up to that cave there." she turned, gesturing to the mouth of the cave up the side of the cliff. " Just wondering if you knew a way up--" Dale's sentence was cut off by another voice, and she turned at the sound of her name, curious. A trainer she vaguely recognized was approaching her, and she felt the distinct panic one always feels when someone knew her name but she didn't know theirs. She took a moment to place him, remembering the lab and his face, but not placing his name for the life of her. " Hey..... you...." she said, trailing off uncomfortably as he approached.

Ajax looked up at the cave that the boy had indicated, nodding to show interest, but before he could say anything he was interrupted by... someone. Uh. Else. Seemed to know the other kid, but...
Ajax would have been more worried that he now had two trainers to worry about if that hadn't been the biggest damn Flygon he'd ever seen.
Had this new kid not showed up, he would have had the perfect chance to catch this... Dale? boy off-guard in the cave, but with the addition of another person...
Ajax really hated logistics. And being double teamed. He supposed he'd have to play nice. S-sigh
Once he reached the first boy, he slipped his hands in his coat pockets and glanced at the newcomer.
"So you two know each other, hmm...?"

(quote from bulbapedia; 'Unlike its flightless pre-evolution, Archeops is capable of flying, but is more adept at running.' hope that sorts out that problem ;p)

Drevlin chuckled lightheartedly, grinning. He could tell that she didn't remember his name, and he wasn't much surprised with the fact that their paths had only crossed once before. He looked to the man near by and waved slightly. "Drevlin." He stated as his blunt introduction, inadvertently giving the name Dale didn't remember without embarrassing her. Or so he hoped. Jackal rumbled his own sort of greeting, his gestures mimicking his trainer.
When the Flygon spotted the Espeon on the man's shoulder and the Archen on Dale's head, he gave a sort of laughing noise, always happy to meet new Pokemon.
"How have you been, Dale? And how about Damplie?" The teen asked in a more relaxed manner than eccentric.
