Tobias chuckled at Evie's awkward gym challenge, nodding to Soren before turning away and standing next to Zeke in order for Evie and Soren to talk properly. "Me and Evie already battled but unfortunately she did not get the badge from me." He said smiling down to Zeke then to his two pokemon, they seemed to have been well trained... in a childish sort of way... Not that that was a bad thing, just a little odd.
"I would advise watching this battle if you plan on going after the gym badges, learn some of Soren's tactics up close." He added with a wink.

Soren smiled at Evie's rushed challenge and it only widened when Tobias revealed that he'd already battled her. He took a closer look at the young lady and it finally clicked - ah so this was the girl he'd spotted in the audience at the Parade celebrations cheering Tobias on.
Absol crept towards Vulpix, sniffing the smaller fox pokemon curiously as Soren stepped forward and took Evie's hand and bowed over it, kissing the back of it - some habits were just too difficult to resist. He smiled at her warmly as he drew back up to full height. "Oh but of course! It would be my pleasure my dear, just name the conditions of the battle." he said. Absol wagged her blade like tail and reared up on her hind legs, pawing at Soren's coat excitedly.

“Me and Evie already battled but unfortunately she did not get the badge from me.”
Some colour came to Evie’s cheeks and she shot Tobias a glare, “Hey! I didn’t know you were a Gym Leader then, that was just a training battle anyway.” She briefly stuck her tongue out at him as if to say ‘so hah!’ and then turned back to Soren, that sheepish smile returning when Soren took her hand and planted a kiss on her knuckles. Gosh. She wasn’t used to chivalry like this!
Evie cleared her throat, “T-thanks, sir.” She then seemed to look confused when he asked her to name the terms of their battle. “Conditions? Do we not just, I dunno, battle as usual?” She remembered Jack talking about getting into a race with the Speed leader, but Evie’s Pokémon weren’t fast enough – Athena might have been able to, but she didn’t want her to get exhausted too soon. She hadn’t even left the city yet!

Soren smirked at the exchange between Evie and Tobias and gave the young lady a dashing smile. "I was referring to the match ups my dear, would you like to do a full six on six battle or would you prefer to use fewer pokemon?"
Absol was hopping on her hind legs now - she hadn't battled since the match against Tobias, no challengers having gotten that far through Soren's pokemon. She let out a barking noise as she came up to Vulpix, lowering her front half so she was nose to nose with the other pokemon, tail wagging excitedly. Soren smiled and whistled sharply. Absol immediately trotted back to her trainer's side and sat up on her haunches obediently.

Zeke blinked slowly. He'd managed to zone out (as he was wont to do), and had been in the middle of a daydream regarding flying toast and fish living together in harmony, with butter flapping out in unison. The butter had such lovely wings... Anyway, Zeke should probably pay attention when meeting new people, and some other man had now appeared looking quite posh.
"Ah, hello! ... sorry, I tend to day dream a bit." He scratched the back of his head sheepishly, smiling slightly. "What's going on? Is this... ooh a battle!" Zeke took in Tobias properly. "Did you say you're a Gym Leader?" He was interested in trying to actually challenge the Gyms here too, considering how shiny badges are- don't drift off again. He looked like he could be quite a challenge. Zeke took in Soren, pointing a thumb at him. "Gym Leader too?" Then Zeke turned, bowing slightly at Evie.
"Anyway, it is lovely to meet you all. Just... tap me next time, the flying toast was so distracting..."

Tobias stuck his tongue out at Evie in retaliation before suddenly realising how unprofessional it was and retracted it, deciding just to wink at her now instead, hoping she was the only one who had seem hid childish response.
Tobias chuckled as the strange man next to him snapped back into reality, trying to catch up on what he had missed. "Yes, Both Soren and myself are gym leaders Zeke." He said raising an eyebrow at the mention of flying toast. "Why, are you interested in getting the Kansai Totem as well?"

Flying toast? Evie couldn’t help but giggle, “Don’t forget the butterflies.” Ooooh. Bad. Shut up Evie.
“I was referring to the match ups my dear, would you like to do a full six on six battle or would you prefer to use fewer pokemon?"
Evie made a small ‘o’ with her lips, understanding what he meant now. Evie was a bit of an airhead in the end of the day, at least she’d be a bit more focused in battle. “Ah. Right. Uhm. Three on three then?” She suggested, unsure, “I’m sorry. I’ve never entered a Pokémon League match before. I’m a co-ordinator you see... Bit different.” She cleared her throat, “Alright. I’m ready whenever you are.” Evie knew she’d have to make this as quick as she could, she needed to go north and help Seth after all, poachers and what not.

Soren nodded. "Three on three it is then." He started walking away to put a bit of distance between them and to give Tobias and Zeke time to move to the side to give the two of them room to battle. The gym leader looked down at Absol who met his gaze with her sharp ruby eyes. "Not yet my beauty, I'll save you for later, but you'll get your battle don't worry."
He deftly undid his frockcoat, exposing the brocade waistcoat beneath along with the thin silver chain that held his pokeballs. He selected one and pressed the central button, enlarging it before he tossed it skyward. Gengar emerged in a flash of light, a big sinister smile on the ghost-type's face. "Easy now," he murmured. He looked at Evie and bowed low with a smile. "After you my dear."

"Why, are you interested in getting the Kansai Totem as well?"
"Totem... is it, you know... does it gleam?" He refrained from straight-up asking "is it shiny", knowing that that usually gave him funny looks. Then again, the way he'd phrased it still sounded odd. It'd only be worth the effort if it was shiny.
“Don’t forget the butterflies.” Zeke couldn't help a chuckle at that, pointing at Evie. "I like you! That was very good!" He grinned, giving her two thumbs up. "There were butterflies, actually, actual flying butter." He clamped his mouth shut, realising that he wasn't sounding very sane. This wasn't the way to make a good impression. He should probably watch the battle, anyway, if the totem does end up being shiny. Zeke crossed his arms and leant back slightly, watching.

"There were butterflies, actually, actual flying butter."
Evie chuckled, actual flying butter? She wanted a ticket inside Zeke’s mind, it sounded... Terrifying, but equally beautiful.
"After you my dear."
Her attention then turned to focus on the battle as Soren sent out his Gengar, Evie grinned and looked down at Vulpix at her feet, “You’re up Aphrodite!” The red vixen yapped happily and jumped straight in.
Evie bounced on the spot, eager with excitement as Evie gave the first order. “Let’s not mess around, Hypnosis!” Vulpix responded and a blue aura surrounded her body, the psychic energy leeching forth to try and send Gengar to sleep.

Soren's glacial eyes narrowed ever so slightly as Evie called forth her first pokemon - the spry little Vulpix Absol had been so curious about. She wasted no time in launching her first move - if it hit she would have a decided advantage...if; he was the master of speed for a good reason.
"Gengar use Double Team." he commanded calmly. Gengar snickered softly as his outline shimmered and in a split second several Gengars were now standing on the field all surrounding Aphrodite. As someone who took advantage of Hypnosis himself he knew the key was direct eye contact and a centred blow. If Vulpix couldn't pick out the real Gengar the attack's effect would be minimal. Surrounding the fox pokemon meant at least some of the attack would hit, but at least this way the damage would be minimized. "Follow up with Dark Pulse."
The Gengars raised their hands, albeit a little sluggishly, forming an orb of swirling dark energy. Suddenly the Gengar standing to the Vulpix's left spread his arms wide and sent a wave of dark energy hurtling towards Aphrodite.

Evie watched as the glow around Aphrodite vanished almost instantly when the Gengar split into hundreds of copies of itself. She drew in a sharp breath through her teeth and had to think fast when the order for a Dark Pulse was issued, “Faint Attack!” Evie barked in retort, Evie started to run in the opposite direction to the wave of dark energy – and just before the attack hit the back of Vulpix’s legs she vanished into thin air. A split second later, she reappeared, right beside Gengar where she would swipe her claws at the Gengar with a snarl.

Soren had to admit Evie was quick on the uptake. Vulpix abadoned the Hypnosis attack when she found herself surrounded and was quick to launch an attack of her own to counter Gengar's Dark Pulse at a speed that even he found admirable. 'Good, very good - especially for a Coordinator.'
Gengar hissed as the Vulpix's claws raked into him, the dark-type move doing a great deal of damage to the ghost-type. The Gengar copies shimmered and vanished as the original staggered back. "Use Sludge Bomb."
Gengar made a retching sound before his mouth opened and a large glob of purplish-brown sludge burst out of his gaping maw towards Aphrodite.

"Use Sludge Bomb."
Evie’s face was utterly priceless when Gengar prepared the Sludge Bomb, seeing the goo emerge from its mouth. She couldn’t help but cover her mouth, “That’s disgusting...” Evie snapped out of it quickly, there was not a chance in hell that she was going to clean out that gunk from Aphrodite’s fur later!
“Get rid of it with Fire Spin!” It wasn’t a case of hitting Gengar, but a case of getting rid of that damn Sludge Bomb. Or at least... Oh yes. Evie’s co-ordinator mind came alive with an idea. The vulpix charged up a torrent of flame that unleashed on the ball of sludge as it was lobbed towards it. “Follow up with Energy Ball and hit it back at Gengar!” She called, Aphrodite used the flames to set the ball of sludge alight; almost immediately after an orb of green light formed at her jaws and shot off back to the flaming bomb before it hit the ground; hurling it back at Gengar.

Soren quickly smothered his laugh, slyly turning it into a cough. Evie's reaction was absolutely priceless! Again, he was forced to admire her off the cuff thinking as she set the ball of sludge slight with a quick Fire Spin and then used an Energy Ball to send it hurtling back towards Gengar. There wasn't any time to dodge it and the orb of toxic sludge hit the ghot-type square in the face. Gengar hissed and snarled, trying to claw the disguisting - and now smoldering, slime off of his face. He swayed on his feet before collapsing backwards, the pain of the burns and the effects of the poison sapping the last of his strength. "Ah well I guess that's that then." the gym leader chuckled as he walked over to his fallen pokemon, using a kerchief to carefully wipe the rest of the scorching slime off of Gengar's face so that poor thing could at least breathe properly.
He returned his pokemon and drew back up to his full height and gave the young woman a smile. "Clearly Gengar is unable to battle - the first win is yours my dear. That's quite the peppy Vulpix you have."
