Once Gengar was down, Aphrodite trotted closer to make sure that the Ghost type was okay. Soren had then stooped in to help the poor Pokémon and the vulpix retreated back to Evie’s heels, “Nicely done Aph!” The vulpix yapped happily at the compliment. Aphrodite was undoubtedly one of Evie’s strongest Pokémon.
"Clearly Gengar is unable to battle - the first win is yours my dear. That's quite the peppy Vulpix you have."
Evie giggled, “Thank you sir, your Gengar is pretty amazing though, I got lucky!” She reached into her bag to pull out a pokeball for the next Pokémon she would send out, tossing the ball onto the ground, “It’s your turn Ares!” From the beam of light a large snake emerged from the ball. Evie’s Seviper; a rather formidable looking snake to say the least, Evie took pride in her snake Pokémon – especially because of how scary they looked to opponents!

Soren stroked his jaw thoughtfully when Evie sent out her next pokemon - a Seviper, he hadn't really been expecting that. He unhooked another pokeball from his pocketwatch chain with a small smile. Her Seviper certainly was an intimidating beastie, he'd have to be careful with this one or Evie would be the first one to claim his badge since the Parade. "Come on out Aerodactyl!"
The red and white capsule opened with a brilliant flash of light that solidified into Aerodactyl's hulking shape hovering above the field, keeping himself aloft with steady beats from his powerful wings. "Aerial Ace!"
Aerodactyl hissed as he gained altitude then folded his wings and plummeted into a heart stopping dive towards Seviper. White streaks of energy danced over the great reptile's form as he became naught but a large purple blur. Aerial Ace was his signature move - devastatingly fast and nigh on impossible to dodge. Soren's pale eyes watched Evie closely. 'Let's see how she handles this one...'

Evie drew in a sharp breath when Aerodactyl was sent out and went straight in with Aerial Ace. It was impossible to avoid, it always hit. “Hang tight Ares!” The Seviper curled itself up tightly and used it’s blade like tail to cover his head, bracing itself for impact. The attack hit and Seviper was flung back, skidding along the ground, Evie flinched.
Seviper hissed more in irritation than pain as Evie called out for the next move, “Alright pal… Shake it off. Let’s show ‘em what you can do, use Haze!” Seviper composed itself and held its jaw open as wide as it could, heaving out a large steady cloud of thick black smoke that rose high and took up the entire field. “Now Ares, use Night Slash!” The bladed edge of Seviper’s tail glowed a dark purple as it lunged forward, swinging its body weight around to try and catch a blinded Aerodactyl

Seviper's retaliation sent a thick plume of black smoke over the entire field making Soren's eyes water and obscuring Aerodactyl from view. The gym leader coughed and winced at the tightness in his chest - the last dregs of his recent illness coming abck to bite him apparently. "Aerodactyl get down and defend!"
Though he couldn't see him he heard a muffled thump as Aerodactly landed. The winged reptile crossed his wings in front of him just as Seviper's attack struck. There was a dull crack and Aerodactyl let out a hissing shriek. "Quickly get rid of this smoke."
Aerodactly beat his wings and soon the smoke dissipated, but all was not well. The large reptile was holding his left wing at an awkward angle and Soren growled. His pokemon were trained for speed not defense and that Seviper packed one hell of a punch. Grounded as he was though, Aerodactyl didn't appear to be too bothered. His jaws parted, revealing rows of serrated teeth as he let out a bellowing roar. "Use Ancient Power!"
A sphere of raw energy formed in Aerodactyl's gaping maw, a few loose stones levitating and spinning around the globe of white light. Without warning the sphere exploded sending a beam of energy straight towards Seviper with rocks and stones hurtling close behind.

Evie listened hard to see whether Night Slash had hit its mark, and judging by the crack sounding from the middle of the field she assumed so. Aerodactyl blasted away the smoke, revealing that the large dragon like Pokémon had been grounded, Evie grinned. “Good job Ares!” The seviper hissed triumphantly.
Soren ordered for Ancient Power next and Evie bit her lip, “Use Iron Tail to defend yourself!” Seviper coiled itself up again, using the bladed edge as a shield which now glowed a luminous silver. Seviper was going to take one heck of a hit, but she knew he was tough. The energy surged towards the snake and hit square in the glowing tail. Seviper hissed in dismay as he was thrown back, “No, don’t get up yet!” But it was too late, Seviper had straightened up and had been blasted with the debris that had come behind the attack – flinging Seviper back again at Evie’s feet.
Aphrodite jumped forward to see if he was alright, nudging his nose with her own, Evie crouched down, “You win this one Soren. Ares is out.” She settled down on her knees to make sure Seviper was okay, pulling out a hyper potion from her back and using it on him so that he would be well for their travels. Seviper hissed softly, feeling much better; Evie grinned at him, “Well done Ares. You did great.” With that, the large snake was returned to his pokeball.
Evie stood and smiled, "That was great! Who's next?"

For a moment Soren had thought Seviper was going to pull through, using Iron tail to defend, but the wave of debris that came following the Ancient Power clinched the match. Aerodactyl bellowed and spread his wings as best he could. Soren chuckled and returned his pokemon. "Now, now be a little more gracious my friend." he laughed, making a mental note to run to the pokemon centre after the match was over to get that wing fixed. Despite the loss Evie looked as eager to battle as ever, "Who's next? Well I made a promise to a special lady before this match started..."
On cue Absol let out an excited 'vrraw' and jumped forward, horn gleaming in the sunlight. Her ruby eyes were alight with a playful energy as she wrinkled her short snout in the Absol equivilent of a smile.

Aphrodite yapped happily when Absol set out onto the field, the little vulpix was quite fond of the older dark type Pokemon. Evie giggled, "You've had your turn Aph!" Instead, Evie pulled out another Pokeball and tossed it to the ground, from it would come the form of another snake like pokemon - but this time it was Evie's water snake; Milotic, Evie's trump card when it came to Pokemon battles because of its renowned beauty and grace, it would be interesting to see whether she'd do well in a trainer battle.
"Alright Persephone, let's get this show on the road! Use Hail!" Milotic's antennae glowed light blue as clouds began to form from the energy as Milotics eyes began to glow as well. Once the clouds had moved in they swelled with ice and hail began to fall down upon the field. Milotic relished in the coolness that the hail had brought, Evie wondered what Soren and Absol would make of it.

Soren eyed Evie's Milotic carefully. The graceful water snake was certainly a beauty and he's wagered she'd one Evie a fair number of contest battles. The speed leader looked up at the sky as the clouds darkened and swelled with hailstones that were quick to rain down on them. While Miltotic seemed quite fond of the icy shower Absol didn't enjoy it quite as much. A sizable hailstone glanced off her horn with a metallic clang and her fur bristled as more struck her body. "Absol use -" the gym leader was cut off by a hailstone striking the top of his head. He looked comically dazed for a second before he tried to regain some dignity by clearing his throat and tucking back a stray lock of silver hair. "Ahem - As I was saying - use Razor Wind."
Absol bobbed her head, wincing slightly as the hail kept striking her and instantly launched into a run, circling the big water-type at a breakneck speed, her horn steadily glowing brighter and brighter. Then, without warning she leapt into the air above the Milotic and let loose her attack. Waves of scythe like energy whirled towards the Milotic, churning of the air up in a tornado like fashion.

Evie winced when Soren was hit by one of the hailstones “Sorry!” She called out to him, Evie was using her bag to defend herself from the small blocks of ice. Milotic’s antennae waved gently around as she turned to see what Absol was doing when Soren ordered the Night Slash, Evie pursed her lips and knew what she’d need to do next.
“Okay Pers, you’re gonna take some hits now, but let’s try deflect some too. Use Aqua Ring!” Persephone called out and three large glowing rings of water formed around its body, lifting the water Pokémon up into the air. The three rings moved and shifted, with intent to bounce some of the energy back; but some broke through the water rings and slowly Milotic was brought back down the ground. Looking a little bit beaten up, but still able to battle. “That’s it, that’s it Persephone. Right, use Water Pulse!”
Milotic reared her head back and opened its mouth wide, a blue orb began to form and once it was of a suitable size was fired straight at the Absol. Hail still falling across the field, but the clouds beginning to thin with Milotic’s decreasing strength.

The power jet of water slammed into Absol's flank sending her skidding across the field with a pained yelp. She slunk back towards Soren's side of the field, wincing from the bruised ribs the Water Pulse had inflicted. After a moment she caught her breath and shook herself vigerously sending water flying in all directions. Soren sighed and wiped the water off of his face. "Thank you for that," he mumbled. Absol turned and gave her master an apologetic 'vrraw' "No matter, go in low with a Shadow Claw, on my signal."
Absol nodded and started circling Milotic again, not a breakneck speed like last time, but keeping low to the ground and darting in with false attacks every now and again like a wolf. Soren whistled sharply and Absol went in close, her claws glowing and elongated with a dark energy as she ran right up to the Milotic and kept low to the ground as she tried to strike at the water snake's sleek belly.

She couldn’t help but shelter a giggle when Absol shook water all over Soren, but then it was back into the battle. Shadow Claw was ordered and Evie was running out of options, Aqua Ring wouldn’t deflect an attack like this, Absol was moving too quickly to hit with another Water Pulse... Mirror Coat only affected special attack moves as well, all she had left was- “Use Brine!”
Milotic began to charge up a ball of salt water in its mouth, but it didn’t get the opportunity to blast it at Absol in time as the fast little Pokémon had already gotten in too close. Evie gritted her teeth as the attack hit its mark, Milotic cried out and the salt water jet was released into the sky; finally stopping the hailstorm overhead.
Evie stepped forward as Milotic lay defeated on the ground, she crouched down and ran her hand over Milotic’s side. “Great job Persphone, you did really well.” She smiled, using another potion just like she had done for Seviper. “Have a good rest now, good girl.” The Pokémon was returned to its pokeball and Evie reached out a hand to Absol to stroke her, “You’re quite the fighter.” She chuckled, then straightened up to face Soren.
She did look a little disappointed, but it didn’t seem to be overly bothering her, “Thanks for the match Soren. I may have lost, but it’ll mean I’ll work even harder next time!”

Absol practically purred when Evie stroked her head. She nuzzled the young woman's hand for a few moments before trotting back to her trainer with a keening growl looking quite pleased with herself. He knelt down and, as Evie had done, gave her a potion to help her with the fatigue making a mental note to do the same for Gengar and Areodactyl as well when he got the chance. He drew back up to his full height and walked over to Evie, shaking her hand. "You did very well Miss Evie - you said this was your first League match? I'm floored by how well you held your own out there. I've no doubts we'll have a rematch in the future," he said giving her a wink. "And next time you just might mop the floor with this old gent."
He gave her another low bow before walking over to Tobias, lowering his voice. "You've a good taste in companions Tobias I'll give you that."

Evie shook his hand back and grinned, "Wow. Thank you Mr Forberg! I guess the stresses of being a co-ordinator had me prepped for it?" She suggested with a chuckle. She quite liked the idea of beating Soren eventually, she'd just need to keep training. She quirked a brow when Soren went over to Tobias, saying something she couldn't hear. Evie shrugged, she wasn't interested in prying.
Instead, she turned to Zeke, "How's the toast?"

Tobias clapped as the battle finished, impressed with Evie's Milotic, she really did have the potential to take the totem. He laughed as Soren spoke to him running a hand threw his spiky hair, pushing a few of them up again. "Wouldn't want to disappoint you Soren." He said with a wink, his gaze drifting to Evie causing a smile to break out on his face once more.
Tobias suddenly remembered something, reaching into his bag and producing a pokeball as he looked back to Soren. He clicked the button in the centre causing Zebstrika to appear in a flash of red light. He looked at the zebra pokemon affectionately and stroked its back, Zebstrika nodding to him in return, knowing what was coming.
"Soren, I was wondering, well..." Tobias paused for a moment to construct his sentence. "Zebstrika is a naturally fast pokemon, and I know he wants to enhance that. I asked him about it before and he was all for it. We were wondering if you would like to trade, so that he can enhance his speed with you. Im afraid i have done all I can in that field."

Soren was quite caught off guard by Tobias' request. He knew from facing him before at the Parade that Zebstrika was fast, but the equine pokemon did have the potential to be faster. The gym leader stroked his jaw thoughtfully and nodded. "I'd be honored Tobias," he said with a smile. "And I think I have the perfect companion for you."
Soren unclipped one of the pokeballs from his waistcoat and on cue the red and white sphere opened, the light slowly morphing into Weavile. "Weavil is a very dear friend of mine...we've been together for a long time - she helped me win my second Champion title." he said. The dual dark and ice type looked up at him with a fond expression as he spoke. "That being said, I think she would greatly benefit from training with you Tobias - I'm sure she'd love to practise with that Snorlax of yours."
Weavile bobbed her head and made a slashing gesture with her claws, but it was an expression of excitement rather than ill temper. She walked over to Tobias and extended a clawed paw up to the younger man.
