Soren was a little startled when another woman seemingly appeared out of nowhere asking for Brooke - word certainly didn't take long to spread, of course he'd found that one out the hard way. He turned to Brooke for a moment, leaning down slightly and placing a hand on her shoulder. "Ah why don't you deal with her, see what she wants," he said softly, murmuring in her ear so only she would hear. "I'll take Miss Jezek out for our battle and then you can join us out back once you're done okay?"That said he turned to Roxanne with a crooked grin. "Yes I do believe the back fields are empty - let's go!"He returned all of his pokemon save Crobat who was still having his wing tended to, and his Absol who trotted along by his side faithfully as he and Roxanne would begin to make their way out to the field. Once there he'd turn to face her with a broad wink. "Seeing as my team is a little short at the moment how about we just go with best two out of three matches wins?"((Once you reply Roxanne I'll start up a new thread for our battle so Brooke and Karen can do their thing here and join us later ))

"Professor Brooke? I'm Karen Scott. Nurse Joy just said you might have found a new pokemon?"
Brooke turned, a little surprise, but she should be used to this by now. There wasn't a time where when she went into down someone didn't want to ask her something, she was quite flattered by it all really - it just shows she forgets she's the professor sometimes. "Oh! Sorry, you gave me a bit of a fright there." She chuckled, "Oh it's no secret, it's just I don't want too much information out yet until my associates and myself are certain of what it is exactly. The best I've come to is that it's a grass type so far, but even then I need to test for dual type."
Before she could continue, Soren placed a hand on her shoulder, "I'll take Miss Jezek out for our battle and then you can join us out back once you're done okay?"
"Of course Mr Forberg, we'll catch up in a short while. Thank you." She smiled and watched them head outside, then turned her attention back to Karen. "Ah, well, you know me already. But, who may I ask I'm speaking too?" She asked with a bright grin, holding out her hand for a shake.

Karen didn't notice Roxanne's little roll of the eyes, but Xoltl did. The Archeops poked its head over its owner's shoulder and hissed like a cat, narrowing its eyes to slits, while its feathers ruffled in a halo around her arms. She shushed it and waved a hand absentmindedly, busy listening to Brook explain about dual type testing. It subsided, but still watched Roxanne with suspicion, clinging on tighter to Karen's back than before. "Ah, well, you know me already. But, who may I ask I'm speaking to?" Karen took the professor's hand and returned the shake warmly. "Sorry, I should have explained; I'm an archaeologist, here on a research trip from Unova University. You see, I have this theory -" her eyes shone and her face lit up with enthusiasm, as they always did when she talked about her profession "- that Kansai, despite having its geography and climate artificially manipulated, was once a populated island in the distant past. There are traces of an ancient culture in all the major regions - such as the Ruins of Alph, or the Sinjoh Temple - and several of the texts recovered from those places refer to a seperate, island city-state. I think Kansai might be the site." She paused significantly, then carried on. "Unfortunately the mass terraforming that this place went through has destroyed almost anything that might have been left - but if this little guy," she pointed to the leaf-pup that lay on the table, "has managed to hide out somewhere without being discovered then maybe, just maybe, there might be an area that the terraformers missed. An area without human intervention, where there might still be archaeological evidence we can pick up on." Suddenly she realised that she was gushing and stopped, embarrassed, fiddling with the bridge of her glasses as she cleared her throat. "Sorry if that sounds like nonsense to you. My supervisor didn't agree with my theory, it's taken me months to persuade the department to fund this trip. And even then they didn't see fit to give me an assistant..." she grumbled under her breath. "But anyway. If you could give me any information as to where the new pokemon was found, and any more like it, I would be most grateful. And of course, I would help you with any related enquiries you might want to make." She bowed slightly in appreciation.

Charizard heaved out a plume of smoke at the Archeops, of course; Brooke and her Charizard hadn't seen Roxanne bullying, they had arrived only a few moments afterwards. As such, Charizard seemed somewhat on the defensive towards Roxanne, or he just simply didn't like Karen's Archeops. Brooke told him to shush, and he did so and turned to interact with some of the other Pokémon back out in the front of the Pokémon Centre. The old beast was always popular with the young'ns.
Brooke was overwhelmed somewhat by the amount of information Karen gave her, and it made her realise. I do that too... So that's why people stare at her blankly when she goes on a whim! She knew what it felt like now, and it made her like Karen rather quickly.
"Unfortunately the mass terraforming that this place went through has destroyed almost anything that might have been left - but if this little guy has managed to hide out somewhere without being discovered then maybe, just maybe, there might be an area that the terraformers missed. An area without human intervention, where there might still be archaeological evidence we can pick up on."
She pressed her lips together, deep in thought, "You know. I think you're onto something here. It would make sense that there's a place somewhere - probably on the other side of the mountains if anywhere - where unknown Pokemon are living, or very maybe hiding from the rest of the island since the terraformers were working on their habitat." Brooke pondered the thought, "No, I really think you've got a good theory there." Brooke looked over to the little green creature, "Unfortunately however, the boy who brought him in was nearby when he found it. It must have wondered really far, or the Spearow that attacked it carried it here. Who knows." Brooke rubbed her temples, so much new information. It got her giddy with excitement, she needed to send some people out to check out the island. "I can give you an assistant at the very least, he'll be interested in this. Ignus Draco, he's an explorer anyhow and I think he'd like to know more about this."

"You know. I think you're onto something here..." Karen beamed with pride when she heard those words - so often had her theories been dismissed as fantasies, and now a prominant pokemon researcher agreed with her! Alright, not exactly in my field, but still... And what's more, she was offerring help! An assistant! Karen mentally punched the air. "That sounds great, I'd love to meet this Ignus. Is he archeaologically trained at all? Or a historian of some sort? if not, it's not a worry," she hurridly interjected, not wanting Brooke to think she was being ungrateful, "it's just that having someone who can analyse evidence and notice details would be the best." She listened a bit more, then smiled. "An explorer? Sounds perfect. As long as he understands about preserving the environment, we should be fine." Her stomach bubbling with mounting excitement, she almost didn't realise when the centre bell rang, signaling that her Drilbur was fit and well again. "Thank you again - but excuse me..." she said to Brooke, and hurried over to the desk to collect Carver. As she did so, she caught sight of the artificial jungle rising fuzzily in the distance past Maple Town's boundaries through the centre's large windows, and a pang of regret caught her. As lovely as this place is, I wish there could have been more care in its construction. So much as been lost through carelessness in the search for 'progress'. Who knows what might have been here, pokemon or human, before the bulldozers came? She looked down at the pokeball in her hand, then at the ones at her belt, and finally over her shoulder at a curious Xoltl, and smiled wistfully. I suppose that's what we're here for. To remind people they need to learn from the past. Turning back to Brooke, she banished her melancholy and clipped the ball purposefully into place in it's holster. "If you can take me to meet Ignus, then we can start our research."

Brooke had to think about that, "To be honest with you Karen, I really don't know what he specialises in. All I know is that he's done work over at the Ruins of Alph; but really, he ought to be helpful to you. Here I'll give you his number and you can give him a call any time about it - just say Professor Verity pointed you in his direction and that ought to get his attention." This would be perfect for Ignus, he'd been off his game a little, but he'd had a bit of a break now, so surely he'd be back on form and be willing to help Karen with her work - he was an explorer after all!
Brooke nodded respectfully as Karen went back to go and get her Pokemon, Charizard huffed as he came back over and Brooke chuckled, "Easy pal. It's alright." She told the old dragon, who gave a low rumble and ventured outside to go and watch Roxanne and Soren's battle. "First things first though, I promised I'd go and see this battle. Care to join us? It's not often one of the Gym Leaders are in town."

(Real quick exit then on to battle thread! XP) Roxanne lit up at the idea of a three Pokemon Battle- it would be just like Stadium battling! "You're on!" She turned to walk with Soren to the fields, and Sableye turned back to make some funny face at Archetops before following Roxanne. (uber short post... and just a quick word to ya Karen, Roxanne acts like a bully but don't take any of it personally- to Roxanne, that's how she acts friendly She came from Pyrite. She was born and raised in bullyworld.)
