Tobias looked at the pokeball in his hand, finding it hard to pull his eyes away from it. What exactly was this thing he had found? He kept his eyes locked on the pokeball as he walked towards the Pokemon Lab, the only place he could think of that might be able to work out what this little guy was. It was nothing like any pokemon that Tobias had ever seen before, maybe it was a new Pokemon.
Tobias knocked on the door of the lab excitedly, still clutching the pokeball in his hand. "Professor Verity!" He called out before knocking again, harder this time, his excitement growing even more at the thought of the little fire bat that resided within the pokeball in his hand. "Brooke! Open up you have to see this!" He yelled against the wood of the door trying to make himself heard. Tobias hoped she was in, even though it was late.

Instead of Brooke answering the door, it was one of her assistants, Ms. Begonia. She looked at Tobias with a startled look, he seemed awfully excited about something. "Mr. Clark! It's nice to see you, I'm afraid Professor Verity isn't in at the moment. Do come in, what brings you here?" She asked, Begonia was a short skinny little thing with long curly blond hair; she was quite pretty and definitely not what people would expect to be a researcher in the slightest. Never the less, her personality was well. Dull. But she was good at what she did and that's why Brooke kept her on.
Begonia allowed him inside, Brooke's Ampharos was still at the lab and greeted Tobias with a cheery wave. "Would you like me to contact the Professor for you Mr. Clark?" She asked, whatever he had come with it must have been important.

Tobias stepped into the lab, following Begonia and patting the Ampharos gently as it greeted him. "Yes, tell her to get back A.S.A.P. She is going to want to see this." He smiled to her sweetly, holding the pokeball tight in his hand considering whether or not to show the assistant. Brooke might want to see it first, Arceus knows she was not a woman to upset. He continued to stroke Ampharos, scratching gently behind its ears as it rubbed against his hand. He watched as the assistant moved away to contact the Professor, a little disappointed that Brooke was not here.

"Of course. I'll call her now." Begonia told him, "Please make yourself comfortable." She added as she went over to her desk to call the Professor. "Professor?" She asked when the phone was answered, she could hear what sounded to be a battle in the background, "...Is this a bad time?"
"Oh no Ms. Begonia, I'm just spectating. How can I help?"
"Well, Mr Clark has arrived and says that you'll really want to see something he's found."
There was a pause then, Brooke was thinking.
"If it helps he's got a Pokeball in his hand that he keeps figeting with, maybe he's caught something you'll want to see?"
Not that you could see it from Begonia's point of view, but Brooke stood up and Charizard jumped with a start, not expecting that at all! "I'll be right over, I just need to fetch something and I'll be back okay? I'll be there in a few minutes."
Begonia bid farewell and placed down the phone, she smiled at Tobias, "She'll be with you shortly."
--
Tobias wasn't waiting long, about 10 minutes later Brooke was back in the lab; Charizard outside on his little patrol again with Grumpig to make sure everything was in order. Ampharos was the first to notice the little bundle in Brooke's arms, swathed in a thick blanket she borrowed from Nurse Joy. Ampharos bleated expectantly, Brooke patted its head, "Hello Amphy, come and see this."
She went over to Tobias, freeing a hand so she could shake his, "A pleasure, Mr Clark. What is it you've found exactly? Because I get the feeling I have something equally as interesting to share." Brooke cleared a space on her desk to carefully place down the bundle, which shifted slightly when it was down. Brooke gently pulled back some of the blanket to reveal the head of the little green grass type, still looking a little worse for wear - but never the less it looked like it was going to be okay.

Tobias looked at the little bundle, smiling at the little Leafeon that was in... Wait... That was no Leafeon. He smiled and reached down, gently stroking its cheek then moving along one of the leaves on its head. What a strange day this was turning out to be. Tobias smiled again as the little creature licked his hand, making a little growl of appreciation.
After a moment Tobias leaned up again looking at Brooke. "Your going to love this." He exclaimed smiling as he clicked the button on the pokeball in his hand, releasing the fire pokemon that was within. It made a little screech and flew around the two before landing on Tobias' shoulder, resting its head against his.
"I found this little guy in the caves buy the mountains while training with Weavile, I call him Embat." He said, smiling to her as the pokemon called out its name in agreement.

Well, at least Brooke knew from that little interaction from the little grass type and Tobias meant that it was definitely friendly. She looked up with interest when Tobias went to show off what he had found, to make herself comfortable she sat down in her chair at her desk, spinning it round to face Tobias as she folded a leg over the other; gesturing to Tobias a spare seat should he want it.
Her jaw dropped when he revealed the little fire type, "Chiroptera in fire type, absolutely fascinating." She realised she spoke professor again, "Sorry, a bat like Pokemon as a fire type, it's just, amazing. Do the flames on its ears go out at all or are they constant?" She queried, her eyes not once leaving the little red Pokemon.

(Can I jump in here?)
Karen had picked up Carver and followed Brooke out to watch the battle - even though she was not a trainer herself, it looked like it might be interesting - but as soon as she got outside, she saw Brooke dashing off with her phone to her ear. "Hey, wait up!" Karen called, startled. She figured that as the pokemon professor was her only contact to her potential new assistant, it would be prudent to stay with her for now. The older woman ran fast though, and Karen (who was more used to poring over finds than any athletic activities) found herself huffing and puffing as she raced to catch up. Her glasses bounced on her nose and Xoltl protested as he jiggled up and down on her back. When she finally made it to the lab - having lost Brooke long ago, but with an inkling of where she might have been headed to - Karen was pretty much out of breath and nearly staggered through the door. She caught herself though, and forced a level of composure on her face - although it was rather spoilt by the fact that it was bright red and sweating. Inside, Brooke was talking to a lady who looked like her assistant and a young yellow-haired man, who carried himself in a similar way to Soren. A fellow Gym Leader? Karen thought distantly, but her attention was captivated by the little creature flapping its wings on the table. Fire flickered at its ears, and it chirruped as the humans around it spoke. Karen walked up and crouched down so that her face was level with it, unaware that she was barging into the discussion by doing so. "A new pokemon! Another one! Oh, this is brilliant!" she gushed, excited. Xoltl had hopped off her back and onto the back of Brooke's chair, as if you put distance between it at the strange new thing. He looked very wary, and squarked loudly as if to warn Karen to be careful. Suddenly the archeaologist realised she was being rude. "I'm sorry, I interrupted you didn't I? Please go on, I'll get out of your way." she blushed and took a step back, nodding to Brooke and the young man. Her curiosity got the better of her again though, and she couldn't help one last question directed at the boy: "Are you the one that found it? Where exactly were you?"

OOC: Karen, Embat is on Tobias' shoulder, read the posts before jumping in babe BIC: Tobias smiled as the professor repeated herself, changing her words to help him understand. He chuckled as he reached up to his shoulder and stroked the little fire pokemon's chin, his eyes moving to the door as another person practically fell in. He waited until she had finished talking to turn back to Brooke. "I don't know to be honest, I only just caught him. All I know is he is excitable and a little shy." He had only learned the last part of that sentence through watching Embat's reaction to the new girl, feeling its nose push into his neck as it his its face from her. Tobias ignored the girls questions, keeping his attention locked onto the professor. The new woman had not even introduced herself and so Tobias did not feel it necessary to answer her.

(Mind if I jump in as well? Ignus might like seeing this himself. ) Ignus massaged his neck as he walked back to Maple Town to check on his reserve Pokemon. His travels around the island of Kansai have been less than enjoyable on his part: for one thing, he had to stay away from the northern part of the island due to the poacher sightings, and what Brooke said about the whole island already discovered what more than true. Nevertheless, he continued to walk up to the Pokemon Lab, thinking how his reserves have been since he last saw them, and noticed the door was open, hearing some familiar voices inside. Raising an eyebrow, he moved his black explorer's hat off his head and had it rest around his neck, revealing his silver-gray hair and the strand of fire-red hair he was known for, and entered carefully. He saw Brooke first, but before he could open his mouth to speak to her, his gaze turned to Tobias Clark...and what appeared to be a fiery bat perched on his shoulder, hiding from a young woman asking a barrage of questions at Tobias. Sighing deeply, he decided to lean up against the wall next to the door, just in case he needed to make a getaway as silently as possible. However, it seemed as though that wouldn't be necessary, as one of his Pokeballs twitched and released his Gallade Garet, the bladed Pokemon watching the other Pokemon closely, especially the strange one perched on Tobias' shoulder.

(Whoops, sorry. I did read it, but mixed up where the grass- and fire-types were, which on second thoughts should have been obvious. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing, just a little rusty ) Karen waited patiently for an answer to her questions, but quickly realised that she wasn't going to get one. She frowned, irked, and tried to work out why the boy was ignoring her - completely forgetting that, once again, she had not introduced herself. Social niceities had never been Karen's strong point, especially not when there was something distracting her. She decided to retreat for now and motioned to her Archeops, who leapt down from his perch to glide a few feet and settle on her wrist, like the parrot he resembled. Karen winced slightly at the weight - he was getting a little too big for her to carry him like this for much longer - but backed off to let Brooke and the boy talk. She still didn't understand how rude he was being. Annoyed, she leaned against the back wall to wait, next to the guy who had just entered and released a Gallade. He looked like he was waiting for the professor's attention too, with eyes that drifted over the new-fire type nervously. "I wouldn't worry about that thing, if it's anything like the other one I don't think it's very strong." she told him matter-of-factly. "Your Gallade could more than handle it. It looks beautiful, by the way." she added appreciatively. Finally remembering her manners, she held out a hand - the one that didn't have Xoltl draped over it - to shake. "I'm Karen, nice to meet you. And you are?" (Yes, Karen is insisting on manners in others while being rude herself. She's a bit of a hypocrite, but she'll learn.)

Brooke was quite astonished when Karen stumbled into the lab and thrust herself right up to have a good look at the little fire type Pokémon that Tobias had brought in, she waited for Karen to finish her barrage of questions; which Tobias had promptly ignored, Brooke pursed her lips, “I don’t quite know how you do it in Unova, Miss Scott, but we at least greet one another before barging in and interrupting someone else’s conversation.” Her eyes shifted to Tobias, “And ignoring someone’s questions is equally as rude, Tobias.” But hey, everyone seemed to be in the wrong here so Brooke thought it best to carry on as Karen backed up to the side.
Brooke watched her for a moment and saw that Ignus had arrived as well, his Gallade eyeing up Embat. “Oh. Miss Scott? This is Ignus Draco, the man I gave you the number for. Not that you’ll be needing it now. I’ll let the two of you speak alone whilst I handle this with Mr Clark.” She looked back to the little grass type and picked it up, “Tobias, let’s go into one of the experimentation rooms so that we can get a better look of that Embat of yours, I’m going to have to ask whether I could possibly take a blood sample as well so that we can run some tests. Goodness, I’m going to be so busy these next few weeks…” She went on to muttering about how she’ll need to contact all of the Professors in the other regions and get their opinions, conducting tests with the Pokémon and finding out what their behaviour is like etc etc.

Ignus looked at the young woman, telling him many things about his Gallade, and Garet immediately turned pink in the face and looked away nervously, and Ignus couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Why thank you, miss. I've trained him since I caught him back in Hoenn, and he evolved into a Gallade whilst I was traveling Sinnoh. Though, you're the first person to actually compliment him in terms of beauty, so he's a little shy when it comes to that." Garet then looked up at the Archeops perched on the woman's shoulder, and the Gallade saluted it in his own form of greeting before looking away again.
Smiling a little, he took the young woman's hand and shook it, hearing Brooke introduce him, though he felt like he should fully introduce himself anyways as he watched the Professor walk away with a grass-type Pokemon, yet another one he never saw before, then turned his attention back to the woman, whose name he found out was Karen. "Well Karen, like the Professor said, I am Ignus Draco, renowned explorer and four-time Pokemon Champion, at your service. Anyways, judging from what the Professor said, you have something you wish to talk to me about?"

Brooke returned from her little excursion from the examination room with a vial of blood in hand, she wasn't going to disturb Ignus and Karen - but upon looking she realised that Karen had gone! "Oh! I didn't expect her to be leaving so soon. Uhm." The Professor looked confused for a moment, then quickly went to go and hand over Embat's blood sample to one of her associates before heading back over to Ignus. "If you've got nothing else to do, please by all means come and take a look at the Pokemon, when you're out travelling perhaps you can find others?" She suggested, then zipped back into the examination room at the back.
Inside, Sapler was comforting Embat after having its blood drawn, Brooke snatched up a jar that was on the side and handed both Pokemon some sweet Poffin to cheer them up. Sapler ate his eagerly and happily, Embat prodded at his suspiciously for a moment and once regarded it as safe took a bite. "There, all happy." Brooke smiled, then turned to Tobias. "Remind me again as to how you found this little fellow?"

Ignus was a tad disappointed that Karen left abruptly. He was thinking of perhaps finding her, but that would have to wait, Garet finally getting out of his shyness to tug on the sleeve of his trenchcoat, the Pokemon Explorer looking at him and smiling a little. "Not to worry Garet, I'm sure we'll meet her sometime in the near future."
When Brooke came in and then zipped back into the examination room asking if he would find some others, he nodded once and, not wanting to take up unnecessary space, put his gloved hands in his trenchcoat pockets and walked towards the examination room, but not before returning the Gallade to his Pokeball and walked inside.
Once he had walked inside, his curiosity of the two Pokemon aroused again. First he looked at the fiery of the two, an Embat as Tobias called it. It would be nice if I could have one of those...but, I wonder of its capabilities in my line of work... His gaze then turned to the dog Pokemon. Hmm...and this one is definitely not any type of Pokemon recorded in my Pokedex. Neither of them are...So that must mean...these two are probably new additions? He continued to silently ask questions in his mind as he observed the two Pokemon.
