Manectric was a strong Pokemon, Tamsin was sure, but she knew just how to bring it down. It was electric type, so there was only one real choice to pick.
"Sandslash! I choose you!" she called out, launching the Pokeball into the air. The familiar red energy solidified. Sandslash was small for it's type, since he was only about three foot tall, but he was strong. Tamsin remembered raising him from an egg, back when he was just a Sandshrew.
"I think it's my turn to go first. Sandslash, use Earthquake!"
Sandslash nodded, then turned to his opponent, smashing his two long claws into the dirt. The stadium trembled and huge cracks broke through the terrain, heading for Manectric.

Nyght was already kicking himself for what he was against. Manectric knew very few non-electric moves.
"Dodge it and Crunch!" he yelled. Manectric leaped up and ran at Sandslash, doing its best to stay alive and make contact. The key to strong ATK was to get close without taking damage.
Even as Manectric was doing this, Nyght knew it would not be long before Manectric would more than likely be out.

The Manectric homed in with shocking speed that even Soren Forberg would be proud of. It's jaws lashed out. "Sandslash, take the hit, it'll be nothing!"
He braced himself but Manectric's force was more than Tamsin had bargained for. Huge fangs clamped down on Sandshrew's arm and he whimpered in pain, recoiling backwards, cradling his limb. But he was still standing, and that's what counts. Now, time for the counter attack.
"Sandslash, time to show him how to really attack! Earthquake, again!"
He swung his good claw down and it cracked into the dirt, same as before, but this time Manectric was close. Hopefully too close to react.

Manectric had landed a solid Crunch attack on Sandslash, but as anticipated, it had done very little.
It had taken no time to see what was going to happen next. Sandslash cracked the ground with a mighty force of its claw and sent the ground shaking.
Quick as the electric type was, it had gotten too close and took a brutal Earthquake hit, knocking it out in one shot.
"Manectric, return!" Nyght yelled once the ground settled itself. "I must say I'm impressed with your Sandslash, Miss Shale, for one in a lesser size you certainly trained it to break some ground!" He grinned at the Ground-type Pokemon.
"Why don't you lead this round?" he said, his grin not disappearing.

A huge smile broke out across Tamsin's face as the Manectric hit the dirt, disappearing in a beam of red light as it was retrieved. Two for two. If she could win another two then the match would be over, and Tamsin would move through. Maybe this was easier than she'd thought. No, Nyght was a strong trainer and Tamsin could do anything except underestimate him. She'd had the type advantage that round, and whatever she picked was sure enough going to be weak to whatever Nyght chose. But hey, beating the odds is half the fun!
"Alrighty then," she called out, returning Sandslash and selecting his replacement. "Let's mix things up a bit! Leafeon, go!"
The ball arced through the air and Leafeon leapt forward, pawing gently at the ground. She kept her head low, dropping her centre of gravity, ready to dodge any attacks that might be thrown her way.
Ding ding. Round three.

Nyght pulled out a Pokeball and tossed it with some force.
"Let's go, Gyrados!"
The red beam of energy soon became blue as the large water/flying Pokemon took its place among the burnt trees. It looked quite fierce, even for a normal Gyrados.
Nyght remembered when Gyrados was a Magikarp, small and rather useless. He felt a surge of pride as he anticipated how this battle would turn out.
"Ladies first," he said with a wink. Gyrados roared.

Gyrados was a mixed blessing. Sure, it was a water type, but it was also flying, meaning that Leafeon would not be super effective. It looked tough, but Tamsin was sure that Leafeon could beat it. She'd taken out worse.
"Ladies first," Nyght winked, and Tamsin frowned. "How chivalrous of you." She said bluntly before smiling a menacing smile. "Silly mistake though. Leafeon, Hyper Beam!"
Instantly a huge gleam of energy grew in Leafeon's mouth and an epic beam blasted straight for the Gyrados.

Nyght didn't even have to say anything as Gyrados simply flew out of the way, parallel to the Hyper Beam attack.
But it didn't go straight into attacking Leafeon. Instead, it just knocked it over as it glided by, then flew away, amused.
In the stands, Seth Galloway was a bit dumdstruck by what he saw. "Is Gyrados just taunting Leafeon? That was hardly an attack..."

Leafeon hit the ground hard, exhausted. The hyper beam had missed completely, and now Leafeon was out of energy, totally open to a counter attack. Tamsin grimaced, fairly sure where this battle was headed.
The audience in the stands were laughing. "Come on Leafeon, get it together!" Tamsin called, but it was no use. Leafeon had put everything into that beam and needed a moment before she could attack again!
Gyrados circled above. It was only a matter of time before it attacked properly.

Nyght grinned when he saw Leafeon was down too hard to get up again right away. He never liked to harm a Pokemon, his grin was aimed at the huge advantage it had given him. With no defense to use, Gyrados could attack as many times as he liked without worry.
Such was its style. But Nyght would not allow it this time.
"Gyrados, let's get this done! Ice Fang!"
The fun-loving Gyrados suddenly turned dangerous-looking, almost sinister. Its fangs glowed blue, and it shot straight at Leafeon, ice already forming around its mouth.
If this hit, Leafeon had very little chance of surviving at all.

Tamsin winced as the attack connected, but the damage had already been done. Leafeon whimpered in pain and tried to limp away using the rocky terrain as cover but the Ice Fang had taken its toll. Shards of ice were forming around the wound and Leafeon began to seize up.
"Synthesis, Leafeon, Synthesis." Tamsin shouted. It was too late. Leafeon was completely encased in a layer of ice. Frozen Solid. She couldn't move.
The defense leader was defenseless.

The referee held up his flag, and yelled out, "Leafeon is unable to battle! The victory goes to Gyrados!"
Nyght withdrew Gyrados, his grin was all Gyrados needed to know he had done well.
"You did well, Tamsin. Let's take this up a notch."
He pulled out another Pokeball.
"Go! Venusaur!"

Tamsin had lost a match up. She was gutted, but she was still two - one up. After retrieving Leafeon she pulled out a Great Ball. Nyght's Venusaur stood strong in amongst the burning trees, and Tamsin wasn't sure how this matchup would play out, but either way, it'd be good.
She arced the ball through the air and released Skarmory who circled around the stadium. "Ok Skarmory, fly up high!"

(ack! I took forever!)
A more than interesting matchup. Skarmory vs. Venusaur.
Nyght was ready to move. "Venusaur! Stun Spore!"
The large Grass type shook its flower and let loose a cloud of orange powder- if it touched Skarmory it would have trouble moving, which was what Nyght needed.
Venusaur had a limp in its back foot. Its movement was very limited and slow, but if Nyght could get Skarmory close enough for one solid hit...
