Hmmm...knowing Brooke, she must have read my mind...trying to get Baron into the pool so she could shock him into submission, huh? An interesting way of diversion... "But it's not good enough. Baron, dodge!" Baron jumped, despite being a heavy turtle Pokemon, watching the Raichu's moves carefully, even though the orange rat Pokemon was much faster than him. I can't risk Baron using Hydro Cannon due to its cooldown effect...I need to think of a way to get that Raichu less on the offensive and more on the defensive...hmmm...[/color] Ignus then looked up at the trees and the undergrowth all around them, then his gaze stopped on the pool, which made him grin.
"Okay, Baron, change of plans! Head for the water, now!"

The thunderbolt missed, but that was just fine; it was only to get him moving in the right direction. Brooke faltered for a moment, thinking that maybe her plan hadn't worked when she saw Ignus' look of contemplation when he was working out what to do next. That grin on his face made her smirk, her plan had worked, he hadn't suspected her plan it seemed - unless he had and had prepared for it...
Brooke didn't dwell on the thought she needed that turtle to move faster. "Raichu, use Strength!" A white aurea began to glow around the Pokemon as it charged after Blastoise, it suddenly came to a halt at a boulder and with shocking strength managed to lift it out of the ground and hurl it right in Blastoise's direction.
Brooke knew the moment that Blastoise was in the water that Ignus would have an attack planned; but close quarters combat was something that her Pokemon were used too, she didn't fear for Raichu - after all, it was that little Pokemon that had beaten down the fearful Blastoise that belonged to Blue when she had to battle him to earn her Indigo League Championship.

Ignus watched carefully, one eyebrow raised, as the Raichu used Strength to lift a nearby boulder and hurling it at Baron, who was moving towards the water. Smirking, he lowered his hat over his eyes, and whispered, "You're not the only one that prefers to fight close quarters. You're seriously underestimating me...Baron! Brick Break!" The Blastoise immediately turned around, one of its arms glowing white and smashed the boulder in pieces, forming a cloud of dust in the arena. If there's one reason why Baron is Ignus' strongest Pokemon on his team, it's because of the teamwork those two share. Close-quarter, mid-range, or even long-range combat, Ignus trained Baron not to just handle almost any type of Pokemon, but to also handle any form of combat to an extent. However, it was at mid-range combat that Baron shined.
"Now...Ice Beam!" Baron immediately jumped out of the dust at the Raichu, its mouth opened wide, charging up the Ice move aiming right for the Raichu. "Your move, Professor." Ignus said, grinning slightly.

"Ice beam again? Tsh." Brooke placed a hand on her hip, looking remarkably relaxed despite the fact her Pokemon was in the firing line of a vicious attack. "Endure it Raichu, then follow up with Focus Punch!" Raichu hunkered down, using its large lightning bolt shaped tail as a shield as the Ice Beam hit, the power surging through him before vanishing. Raichu had entirely absorbed the attack - but had taken some damage as a result. Raichu faltered for a moment, taking a deep breath; but then charged as its fist began to glow a bright white, right up until the last second Raichu looked like it was going to attack head on - but using its speed it feinted left and went to strike the turtle on the side, hoping to take it by surprise.
Regarding the move hits, Raichu's attack should push Blastoise straight into the pool.

Ignus' eyes narrowed as the Raichu's Focus Punch knocked Baron in the side and careened the Blastoise into the pool. Ignus managed to catch a glimpse of the Blastoise's face before it disappeared into the pool, and then just stood there as the ripples settled themselves. Focus Punch...Endure...Strength....Thunderbolt...that Raichu's been trained well, and by an expert Trainer no less...however...
A chuckle escaped Ignus' mouth, and then he started laughing slightly, trying to contain his excitement. "What is this? It appears that Mr. Draco is actually laughing, even though his Blastoise finally took a hit!" Ignus then stopped laughing, and grinning, said simply, "You've done it this time, Professor...you've pissed him off."
At the end of that sentence, the water's surface began to quiver, and then a huge fountain of water exploded upward, a dark shadow that could be seen in the water as it fell back down. Baron stood there in the shallow pool, but something was different. He was now glaring daggers at the Raichu, guns pointing at the rat Pokemon, his eyes full of rage. "You see, there have only been a few occasions that Baron's defense has been penetrated. He takes pride in his 'never been hurt' title, so whenever he gets actually hit, he tends to...eheh, go a little berserk?" Baron roared loudly, causing some ripples to form, and then went back to aiming at the Raichu.
Ignus sighed, and pointed a finger at the Raichu, his eyes looking calm and relaxed. "Why don't we just put an end to this little charade, huh? Baron, Hydro Cannon." Upon that command, Baron pointed both gun barrels at the Raichu and let loose its fury, the two pressurized jets of water going full force at the Raichu.
"Knowing you, Professor, you must have a plan...you always have a plan for this kind of situation..." Ignus kept both of his steeled eyes on the Professor, waiting for her next move, which would probably end the battle right then and there. Because of the Hydro Cannon, Baron would have to rest in order to attack again. Ignus sighed and stood there waiting for the final blow.

Brooke laced her hands together and then an awkward crack sounded from her knuckles, Brooke laughed as well as she placed both hands on her hips, “I know. You see, doing research for a living means I read up on your techniques and your battle strategy. I wanted to get that Blastoise as mad as I could.” Raichu grinned triumphantly, “You see Ignus, when a person – or Pokémon, in this case – get’s enraged, it tends to leave them somewhat... unfocused? Meaning that-“ Raichu hunkered down again, tail sweeping in front of it in a defensive position, “-they’ll either miss, or-“ The canon was getting closer, but Raichu was prepared. The attack hit, shoving Raichu across the ground backwards, but despite moving several metres, it was still holding steady. “-they won’t attack at full power.”
Raichu bounced up after the hit, but it was looking exhausted – not to mention completely and utterly drenched. Brooke clicked her fingers and flashed a sly grin, “Raichu, use Thunder on that pool!” She called and Raichu complied, sparks shot out from Raichu’s yellow cheeks and suddenly the sparks ripped into a static nightmare as the orange electric type was engulfed with lightning which was concentrated into a focused bolt of power that would be directed right at Blastoise’s feet.

Ignus sighed as the Thunder attack hit, hearing Baron's yell of pain cry out as the turtle Pokemon felt the shockage. Even if he could, he knew only one thing: the battle was over as soon as he gave the command for the Hydro Cannon. Baron stood there still as a statue, but then started to grimace as it got out of the pool, making it's way slowly towards the Raichu, the turtle Pokemon feeling the paralysis from the Thunder attack.
"Baron, that's enough!" The Blastoise immediately stopped and looked up at its Trainer, apparently looking calmer after letting loose that much power, but much more exhausted. "That's enough, Baron. All I wanted was to have fun with this battle, and I thank you for complying with me. In all honesty...even if you could continue, you wouldn't win. This battle is the Professor's victory. There's no point continuing when you're on your last legs." The Blastoise looked at his Trainer weakly, but understood. Ignus wasn't at all careless; he knew when he was beat. The Blastoise looked at the Raichu, said a few things in the form of grunts, perhaps saying in a weak voice 'congratulations', and then collapsed right there on the arena floor.
"Ignus' Blastoise is unable to battle. The winner of this matchup is Professor Brooke Verity!" The crowd cheered, and Ignus took his time walking down to the arena floor towards his partner, and taking out his Pokeball, returned Baron, saying to the capsule as he walked back, "You did good no matter what my expectations were. I'm proud of your hard work, Baron." He then turned around, looking unchanged that he lost the first matchup.
"In all honesty, Professor, I actually handed you that battle. I just wanted to see if Baron had what it takes to battle an Electric-type Pokemon like Raichu. And besides, if this was a no bars hold battle, I would have used a different type to handle your Raichu. But...this is just an exhibition battle, after all. None of us are here to win, but to show off our abilities as Gym Leaders and Champions, right? I'm just here for the fun!" He then laughed heartily.

"In all honesty, Professor, I actually handed you that battle...” Those words didn’t in affect deal a blow to Brooke, but it certainly did to Raichu – and it showed. The orange Pokémon gave a look of sheer distraught when Ignus insisted that he handed her the battle. Brooke frowned and knelt down, Raichu ran over to her, darting through the trees and leaping up into her arms. “Don’t listen to him Raichu, you won that battle through skill. Only someone who’s sore from a loss would say they gave it away, you did great – okay?” She smiled, giving the Pokémon a tight squeeze – which the crowd seemed to adore, nothing like a top relationship between Pokémon and trainer, “Take a break pal, you earned it.” Raichu squealed in delight, now happily reassured as it was returned to its Pokeball. Brooke stood up again and frowned at Ignus, “Exhibition match or not Ignus, you just insulted a Pokémon who worked hard for that win, my Pokémon play to win but will bow out gracefully if they lose, they can accept defeat – as can I. I can’t stand for what you’ve just insinuated. It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game, and I don’t like how you’re playing.” She sneered, already with the next Pokeball in hand; she threw it as far into the battle field as she could. A bright white flash revealed another of Brooke’s original Kanto team, in the pool where the last battle ended, a proud looking Dewgong waded in the shallow water and called out cheerfully. (Pause there Ignus, want some reactions between matches!

Lorna jumped in the air with a crow of victory. Behind her Typhlosion blew a jet of fire into the air and waved at Brooke encouragingly. The biologist winced, however on hearing the exchange of words at the end of the matchup. "Oh that was a mistake laddie," she muttered. Poor Raichu looked so upset, she wanted to run over and hug the orange mouse-like pokemon. Brooke seemed to console it however and called oout her Dewgong with flinty eyes. "Hn and he thought Baron was pissed off."
She turned to Typhlosion with a pleading smile and the bulky fire type bobbed his head, and lifted his trainer up onto his shoulders, again taking care to dull his firey collar as much as possible. Now sitting a fair bit above the people around her she pumped a fist into the sky and cheered. "You got this Brooke! Dewgong, lookin' good!"

Soren stood quietly with the other gym leaders and watched the match, studying every move with his cold blue eyes. He admired the skillful commands of both trainers and smiled as Brooke pulled off the first win. His gaze, however became absolutely glacial upon hearing the conversation at the end. He understood that the boasting and big talk were all part of the game, but the steadfast gentleman in him was more than a little outraged at Ignus' words. "Absolutely no class - to speak to a lady of her caliber like that!" he grumbled under his breath.
The Speed leader held his silence, he'd been completely neutral at the beginning of this match, though now he was more inclined to see Brooke pull off another win. He smiled his wintry smile and watched with great interest. Ignus certainly was confident in his abilities, not without reason he was, of course, a Champion several times over, but Brooke was more than capable of holding her own with her perceptiveness and ability to think off the cuff. 'Careful Professor, don't get angry...get motivated.'

William stood and shouted in excitement, clapping his hand above his head. "Woo! Go Professor!" He shouted chuckling as he looked to Ignus, hearing the boys words over the intercom, his face dropping. "You cant say things like that!" He shouted down, annoyed by how he had battled. He laughed as he thought up a chant, much like one he had heard at a sports game and started to chant it, smiling wider as a few others joined in.
"He's sad, He's weak, He'll deny it when he's beat, Its Ignus Draco! Its Ignus Draco!"

Lumine felt a little hurt that everyone immediately went against Ignus, and also a little hurt that Ignus was completely ignorant when it came to how his opponents acted towards his provoking words. Lumine knew that Ignus didn't mean anything that he said literally; she heard about the tower incident, and she was probably thinking that Ignus was just trying to apologize to the Professor by throwing the match so she could win. Looking over at Lorna and the others, she looked down at her feet, took a deep breath, and walked over to Lorna, tugging on her sleeve to get her attention. "Excuse me Ms. McKinley, but can I have a word with you? Alone, if that's possible?"

Lorna was so startled when someone reached up and tugged her sleeve that she almost fell off of Typhlosion's back. It would've been a rather nasty landing indeed if the burly bear-like pokemon hadn't caught her with a surprised growl. He set her down carefully as she patted his nose to show her gratitude. "Thanks mate."
She turned to Lumine and arched a slender blonde eyebrow, feeling slightly concerned at the uncertainty and nervousness the girl seemed to exude. "Yeah sure come on." she sighed, leading the girl backstage. She glanced around to make sure they were alone. Hopefully this wouldn't take long, she wanted to see Dewgong in action! "What's troubling you Lumine?"

Seth had been on the edge of his seat the whole first battle, and jumped up when Raichu claimed the victory. Ignus' words shocked him, though, claiming he was handing her a victory.
Raichu being upset and consoled by Brooke calmed him some, knowing she handled it with grace. "Raichu fought real well, I'd be afraid to take down that one," he had to admit to Jack.
Dewgoing came out and Seth watched in awe at it. "Isn't that one nice! What do you think Quilava? ...Quilava?"
He looked around and noticed Quilava had run off to Vulpix and Evie, who were sitting not too far away. It stopped and began chatting with Vulpix and Pikachu, still holding the egg. Seth watched- if Evie didn't want it around he'd go retrieve his social Pokemon.
"Who're you betting for this next round, Jack?"

Evie gasped in shock and awe at the battle, both Pokemon working incredibly hard to get the battle. At least, that's what it looked like from here. Riachu took the victory and Evie cheered with William, throwing her hands up in excitement - Pikachu particularly excited that one its type had won. But then, Ignus revealed that he had thrown the match? Evie gave a perplexed look, “But... Why would he do that?” She couldn’t help but snicker at William’s chant, “Aw now now William. Maybe he didn’t mean it like that?” Or maybe he did? She really wasn’t sure, Blastoise looked to be working too hard to just give in so easily. It was a matter of pride, surely?
Out of the blue, Seth’s Quilava appeared at her feet with the egg from earlier. Vulpix squealed happily and nuzzled against the egg to help Quilava keep it warm. “Oh hey Quilava!” Evie grinned, then looked around to see where Seth was – finding him after a few moments of scanning. She’d wave over to him, signalling she was good with looking after Quilava there.
Evie’s eyes lit up when Brooke released her Dewgong, “Dewgong! How pretty! I wonder who Ignus will use against it.”
